gm is copying fords strategy...
Really great to see the brand known for smoke and mirrors to be continuing the smoke and the mirrors.

They gave up on the new generation of customers in the early 70s and have been living off of a dying market share ever since. It speaks to what a success story GM was at one point that they could coast for almost 40 years on their client base before the machine ran out of fuel (customers) I see the new products they are rolling out and admit that there is nothing wrong with the cars. They may even be world class in quality and performance, however they are not aimed at renewing the roots of the company by attracting young buyers. I see no evidence that GM is even aware of this problem.
Yeah but, sorry, that "new generation" of customers in the early seventies are in there 60s now...Hardly the most important demographic. There is a whole new set of customers to go after.

It seems to me that GM is turning Buick into a quasi SAAB. I4 turbo with a manual? Sounds Swedish to me.
If you can't tell a new Mazda you must be a blind man...
after seeing the pics, all i hear is Hetfield..
you know its SAD BUT TRUUUUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEE. SAAAAAAAAD BUUUUUUUUUT TRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUEeee

That sums it up for me.
It sounds like a pretty damn sweet car to me, and given GM's typical depreciation, it should be affordable in 3-5 years.
But honeslty, I have a Miata in the garage. Everything else is just a driving-appliance or a failed attempt to make a pseudo-sportscar. Well, except for an Elise....
I like it because its a family car with a turbo and a manual. If youre a looks only kinda guy, perhaps this is the wrong board for you. If It wore a subie badge everyone would be creaming their BVDs for it. We all complain GM is killing off their hi-po stuff and when they bring something back, people get pissy over the wheels? Its not a bad looking car, does sub 6 sec 0-60, available 6 speed manual trans, possibly AWD, room for a baby seat and isnt the size of Rhode island. How many here have or want to have kids? Who cant convince the old lady a Buick is the right choice for the fam damily? This is the DD that goes to the AX track, and probably does it well-ish. What more do you want? I gave GM as hard a time as the next guy in recent months, but Ive personally seen an effort and am willing to give them a chance.
better looking than a Taurus, but will it out perform a SHO? It least it's a manual. Will people cross shop this vs a Acura or 3 series? 300C? Doubt it. At least GM's trying. As mentioned before, rebage a G8 and problem solved.

Glad to see that you're living up to your alias . I'd hate to see that go to waste.
yeah adding a turbo is super original, no ones done that before. Ford paved the way through rigorous trail blazing and progressive choices - adding a turbo to a stale design? GENIUS!. Buick is adding a turbo because they are pack-followers and need tarred and feather and tossed into the crapper...stupid dumb Buick - ptewey (sorry Eric, no disrespect intended)
some people are like pitbulls, once they latch on, they never NEVER EVAAAR let go. gets kinda redundant and silly after a while. Id say it gets amusing, but no ones really amused.

At least he's consistent. You have to respect that.

With two young boys and a limited budget this is really where I need to be. I think there is a market for this since Subaru has forgotten how to build cool sedans (Although I am still considering a CPO Impreza sedan)

My wife an I have over 20 vehicles and no kids. We don't need a 4 door sedan, but I loved the 96 Impala SS we used to own.
Do we need a 4 door? No. Am I going to limit the number of vehicles I enjoy because of # of doors, cylinders, etc? Nope.
In our DD rotation now is a 4wd 91 Suburban, 09 Solstice GXP Coupe, and 03 Mustang Mach 1. An 87 944T will be back in the mix and soon as I can use my right broke arm enough to finish my waterpump install. I don't understand why people totally discount a car because of something like the number of doors.

Well, then YOU go buy one. I don't want it.

You mentioned "your generation" in an earlier post. What is "your generation"? I'm 32. As I stated before I like it, and could see myself possibly owning one at some point, but my automotive tastes seem a lot more diverse than most that post in threads like these. Will I buy one new? Probably not. I plan for the coupe to be the last new car we buy for awile, but I do think it's a pretty damn cool car in general and am amazed it's coming from Buick. This actually gives me hope for a return of the Grand National at some point, which would have a very good shot at getting me in the new Buick showroom trying to get my name on a list.
Im actually planning to dex, im not sure what the point of your post is? Im hoping I was wrong about GM, and this car is a start in the right direction. Its got features i want, and probably has MANY I dont. Unfortunately theres no such thing as a stripper model anymore, so i cant not get power everything, its not an option.

Let's face it, Buick's last car that had much of any appeal to the performance crowd followed that exact same formula: Take what was otherwise a fairly mediocre platform, give it a somewhat more aggressive suspension tune, paint it black, and add lots of boost. And the result didn't turn out so bad...

+1 on this and on some of Cotton's comments. Sadly, when I read thread like this I do start to think I'm the one on the wrong board since there seems to be a lot of closed minds these days. I'm single, a little shy of 35, and would rock this as a daily in a heart beat. My next new car purchase is in a couple of years and this is high on my list.
I'm a little confused.... nothing to cross shop this to?
Legacy GT maybe? Just a thought.
I'm impressed and even a little amazed that this is coming out of Buick.
I still don't want it.
