Thankfully not mine, sadly my buddy broke his car tonight at NCM Tracknight. 2006 Miata 6speed and the shift linkage completely separated from the shifter. It still snicks back and forth to all positions but the transmission is firmly in fourth gear full time. Towing it back tomorrow on a trailer. Does anyone have any insight about possible repairs short of replacing the whole transmission?
In other news, I flogged my tired old '97 around NCM west to a best lap of 1:47:544 so I'm reasonably pleased with that.
Yup, the shift fork is good for about 200 laps at racing speed before it breaks and the car jams in 4th. We discovered that at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill in 2006 with the prototype MX-5 Cup cars.
The Cup cars competed with billet shift forks. Check with a Cup prep shop to see what they might have, and I'm pretty sure there was an upgraded version available later. Not sure how it retrofits.
what were his times pre snap?
Similar to mine. Mostly 1:50:xxx with a best of 1:47:677 (not that we are competitive or anything )
