Went to Edmonton to race the new track there. I'm not in any points situation this year. I run an IT Neon. Its fat and doesn't like to turn without grinding the front tires into an expensive dust, so I decided to try some tires that might stand a chance of surviving the weekend.
225/45 15s, ran 2+ hours, 30* C, I've got at the very least another 2 weekends in them, and I'd bet 3 more if I turn them inside out for weekend 3 and 4. I don't know whether that would work well or not...
I was in the middle of a group of Spec Miata/IT cars, mostly on R6's. They were all a bit quicker than me in the twisty bits, but the Neon has a bit of grunt down the straights, so if I didn't screw up, I could stay ahead. I'd say they start out the session very close to as fast, but either the Rivals heat up and drop off a bit, or the Ho-hos warm up and speed up. The timing system is pretty rudimentary there, so I don't know anything other than fast lap of each session- clear of traffic, my Neon was about a half second behind a friends similarly prepped IT 90 Integra on Hoosiers.
They are very predictable, progressive in break away, easy to find the edge and stay there. If I wanted to run at the pointy end of the grid, it would be Hoosier time. Right now I just want to have some fun, so I'll save $600 per weekend, thank you very much.
