Firstly I am not a Chevy guy.

Secondly I would be proud to put one in my driveway, or better yet down a twisty road.

Bring on the price reduced C6 Z06s

OK, First of all, that was a rendering done by an enthusiast organization, nothing short of brief videos have been released from GM, so judging that styling is pretty silly.

Secondly, as other have said, the C6 is smaller in every dimension (and I think lighter??) than the 911.

Thirdly, The C7 should be amazing, provided Dan Akerson didn't get to it and do to it what he did to the Malibu. I like Corvettes, and this will make a C5 Z06 cheaper!

Fourthly, Lesley, if you weren't so nice and classy, I'd hate you! I've been to Cobo hall for four consecutive years while in college there, and it was always fun, but I imagine you're going as press with all the nice things which go along with that.

If they get much cheaper it's going to be hard not to buy one.

It's obvious you didn't read all the posts either where I said "I get off on the little things. I can still read about the details of the NSX and get sexually excited. The newest Vette reads like that too."

And I've driven any number of vettes and for much more than just a test drive. I've even put $$ down on 2 and then backed out. They just feel so honking huge! They aren't light on their feet like an S2000, RX7 or even an NSX.

A friend of mine & I kept trading out my S2000 & his Z06 around the autocross course and we were both faster in my S than his Vette. He now does HPDEs instead of autocrosses because he feels like he embarrasses himself when he compares times to other "lesser" vehicles.

I'll definitely look at the new Vette, and decide if they improved it. BTW the side shots I saw looked like they'd mated it with a Viper.

And what I say is opinion, but what you say is fact? You sound just like my wife!!!!

Good to hear. From the way everyone was talking, it was like "yeah, that's it".

Another GRM fashion Critique!

Does not seem to be much interest in the dynamics of new vehicles anymore. Taillights seem to be this seasons buyers hot spot!

And yes, I am just yanking the collective chain cause I think its funny.

When you say it's big and heavy, that's opinion.

When others say it's dimensionally smaller than a 911, and under 3200 lbs, that's fact .

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to run you down, I do it too. For me it's DSMs/Evos....I don't like them. I recognize the 4G63 is a great engine, I know cheap turbo/AWD goodness is awesome, and they've certainly gotten a lot of people into the car hobby, which is great! I still don't like them. No real reason, it drives my buddy (who owns 3) crazy. I'm happy for anyone that has one and likes it, but would never own one myself. Just my opinion.

Happy we can keep it lighthearted though!

I hope that is not the final design for the C7 in the OP Photo. The only reason why I like that there is going to be a C7 is that should mean that C5's will be at Current C4 prices in a year or three.

since someone drew that rendering.. i wonder if having quarter windows would make the car light enough from losing the glass hatch to justify losing all that visibility?

anyone else remember what the biggest complaint was about the styling on the C6 when it came out?

that's right- it was the lack of aero killing and awkward looking flip up headlights.. everyone was all "but they've had flip up headlight since 1963 blah blah blah" and then they got over it..

carguy123 wrote: The taillights are supposed to be the new look. I've read a bit and if what I've read is true they kept the too large size, but did manage to reduce the weight to about 3000 lbs. The new LT1 (I believe that's the number) was part of that drop in weight. It reads a lot better than in years past, but we don't drive a car by what we read. We'll still need to see it and drive it, but this is the first Vette I've been looking forward too since the "Stingray" series. Remember when Vettes were smaller and weighed less than the rest of the Chevy line?
I don't get the too large size comment. The C6 is already smaller than the 911 in every dimension. Vette is 2" shorter in length, 9" narrower and 2" shorter in height. Only the WB is longer on the Vette by 9" as it has the engine front/middle rather than arse ended.

According to easily available info - for 2012 the Vette is 72.6" wide, the 911 is 71.2" wide. Vette 9" narrower than a 911? I don't think so....

I wouldn't class the 911 as a small car any more, so using it as the comparison doesn't matter to me.The only Vettes I ever driven were a '66 coupe and a 2007 convertible. I liked the size of the '66, but found the '07 wide. The low seating position relative to the window sill makes that feeling worse.

that's what i love about driving them. low and wide. it just feels right when you get behind the wheel of a vette. to me anyway.

i don't think people realize how small corvettes are because its a "huge bloated american car" or whatever else they think. when you park next to something like a lumina or taurus(older one) and it dwarfs your vette, you realize you're not in a big car. hell my wife's old cavalier was longer, had a longer wheelbase, and was taller than my c4.

Given that Flyin'Miata builds V8 Miatas that weigh approximately 2500 lb, a 3000 lb Vette with all the extra luxuries would be acceptable. I still like to be able to get a good view of the road and put my arm on the window sill though.

I like the quarter windows. Sorry, but I always thought the one piece hatch/window was awkward from a styling standpoint. It made the cockpit look like it just came to a stop at an edge where it met that glass.

And the I was in, I thought the glass had some "interesting" lense effects going on where it was really bent to follow the contours of the car

^^ This is my view. I drove a 2008 C6 and that car is by no means big. Low and wide, yes, but the handling is exceptional. Your body sits in a position that you feel planted to the road.

Honestly, I think the latest Vettes only get a bad rap because they're American.

In reply to mad_machine:

The interior of the Corvette is its Achilles Heel. I have heard complaint after complaint about the seats and I have no clue of what their problem is. I'm 6'4", 300 lbs, and I was comfortable in them.

Yeah there is plastic fantastic and I get when you're paying that much for a car you expect to have a whale penis interior, but when I'm driving, the interior is the last thing on my mind. Unless it squeaks or rattles, then we got problems.
