With the sale of the Flex I have zero daily driver. I ride my bike/motorcycle 8000 miles a year. Flex gets picked up in a month. I put 4k a year on all my cars combined. I have the Corvette for sale which just leaves me the 550 spyder and the thunderbird both cannot be used according to insurance as much fun as that would be. I was 100% going to go complete luxury this time, thing used Ghost/Flying Spur but after test driving them both and a few others they real are not for me. The Dawn is best I have driven but it only fits in the garage with 3 inches to spare and would require taking my 2 post lift out due to the width. I can get a super sport Spur for 100K all day long in a good spec. I looked at the Raptor R but I will not pay above MSRP on anything period I hate that.

My father and law and I are sharing his Honda Pilot as long as I do the service for him, its a 2010 and has 80K miles and he put 2K a year on it. This means I don't need a truck now. this will be used when the weather is to bad for the bike and for dinners and local vacation trips.

  • SWMBO has suggested another R8 this time a 17+ coupe that would work for all weather and around 140k the most expensive option by far and a bit more then I wanted to spend.
    • A Hurrican is completely out of the question with current prices.
  • I have a 2015 Z07 package corvette that I test drove that I really like but its a 8 year old GM and every time I get a used GM car I have problems. At 64K$ and optioned with the automatic its a hell of a lot of car.  It has the best packaging and can be used to go to the store. I like the idea of a pulley and tune and leaving everything else stock.
  • Locally there is a C8 3LT / Z51 White/Red car for about 84K with 2K miles, right at MSRP and the best all around package. But very limited in total space andstill a GM. The C8's are going down in price and this is still the top of the mark.
  • Local dealer buy just took in a 15K mile Vantage that I can get around 105K, MSRP was 195K has a bunch of Q options. I loved the car in the test ride, it is a fantastic GT/sports car and it has a 2 year warranty but I will loose my shorts on the deal as in 3 years its going to be a 65K car IMO.

Just bouncing adeas around.

My buddy is still looking for a C2. Would it be possible to connect you with him?

Please. I just put it up on Corvette Forum last night and I have like 10 emails to answer this afternoon already on it. Priced it to low I think but will stand by the pricing I posted.

The Aston is the least "pedestrian" among the choice if that's important to you. Feels funny to say that with the caliber of cars being talked about, but I can count on one finger the number of modern Astons I've seen the last few months.

Is buying a new car really cheaper than just paying more in insurance for the 550 or thunderbird?

I rented a C8 on Turo last month and absolutely loved it. Congrats, I will own one some day.

I love that you're wringing your hands about GM reliability while simultaneously considering an Aston Martin. Congrats on the C8, I think it'll hold it's value longer than expected due to low production numbers (for a Corvette)

Yeah I am on the list for the Z06/Z07 package car but 2+ year out. Not 100% sure I need a Z07 car and we will burn that bridge if any when it gets here. Superchargers are available for the C8 cheaper. This has all the extra cooling so it should be ok for some light track work, though I prefer the 550 spyder for that.

I seriously thought about it, AAA would let me do it I asked and it was not expensive. But the 550 is a rolling fix it ticket still and with 180hp race motor in it, death incarnate without proper warmed up 200tw tires. The Thunderbird I have used as a daily in the past but with the hard top on and the lack on syncro's in 1st it sucks. I am too tall for the roof and it gets HOT inside. Plus getting stuck in San Diego/LA traffic in a thunderbird is not fun.

Real answer.

I make a crap ton of money, all the investment accounts are already maxed and have spent nothing in the last couple years working crazy hours due to Covid and I wanted something nice. Knowing my history with fly and buys this could go amazing or I could end up hitch hiking back to San Diego. Nothing between.

The last big trip I did like this I ended up finding a damaged car that the dealer PPI did not catch, hidden by the dealership with a bribe. Was clear as day. This was after a 13 hour drive, turned it down of course. Then had the dealership still pull a loan on my car after forging my signature and my wife's.  They do not have a dealership anymore, I was nasty over that.

The lack of Porsches on your list is glaring.  wink  Seriously, there just isn't a better all round, it does it all car than a Porsche 911 Turbo, whether an S or not.  Maybe not as flash looking as some of your choices, but they're incredibly fast, totally comfortable in daily use, carry a surprising amount of stuff and are bomb proof reliable.

How do you go about test driving a Roll Royce? Do they let just anybody get in and drive?

I showed them my bank account balance and knew what options I wanted in a used one and the dealer let me test drive it. They did not even run a credit app.

I am in my early 40s and look like a typical white California tech guy. Hell a dealer once sent me off to show my wife a F430 spyder just to see if she like the color.

So that was seriously on the list. But out here at least where I am at it's 70 year old guys who have them or new money tech. I actually prefer the S over the turbo for a daily. My 997 cab was amazing and if my brother in law did not have to have it I would still have it in the garage. Hopping on a plane in about two hours. Going to sleep overnight in Reno and then get the car around 10:00am tomorrow and then cannonball it home the 500 miles.

So we are on track to have a usual fun filled fly out. Stuck on tarmac for the last 45 minutes and behind schedule. If my connecting flight in Las Vegas is close I will make it. If not I will get into Reno at 3:00am or have to drive from Las Vegas.

should have paid a friend to take me out on his plane. Would have been fun and faster but so much more expensive.

So ended up in Reno. Expedia's 4.5 star hotel had cockroaches and transients outside. So staying at the Atlantis Casio for cheaper somehow last minute.

found a good Jewish deli in the casino and eating blintzes and fried chicken livers.

Good choice, haven driven a few part of me regrets not ordering a C8 when I had the opportunity.  It was the right decision but still.

On the Porsche note, I spent last weekend driving a friend's 987.2 Cayman S around Dallas.  I was quite impressed with how good it was at just being a car, but it was fun, and had some of the best steering I've experienced.  The only thing that would stop me from wanting one as a DD was noise.  Between the engine behind your head and road / tire noise, there were times where it was just damn loud inside.  Significantly louder than a 911.  I haven't been in a newer example of the mid-engine Porsches to know if they've improved that or not, however.

Ok so far so good. Car is very dirty but is almost perfect under the dirt. One or two small scratches under the bumper and a chip in the hardtop that has been patched up.

No floor mats and the dash has some lifting which is a warranty fix in San Diego.

Came with a 100k warranty on drivetrain and extra year of full coverage because it was certified. Test drive on this with the z51 and the mag ride was amazing.

cur the check and signed the docs. Will be on the drove home in about an hour.

I had a C7 Z51 3LT for a couple years and now after I have driven a C8 Z51 you have definitely made the right choice.
C8 is every GM thing fixed and made to honestly compete with the best brands.

one caveat .... the electronic brakes do feel like gaming sim rig pedals....which they are ...just not "sim"
