I am right that camber plates basically consist of a top plate that has a few slots in it. One for the other plate which the strut is attached to and holds the ball bearing and the other two which allow the bolts to slide. It seems like this should be fairly easy to make. Am I missing something?

Not really. All you're really doing is moving the strut top sideways.

You can actually buy universal ones that don't have the holes drilled already, will fit most cars, for dirt cheap. Like.. $50/pair cheap. Drill/shape the plate to your specs.

A buddy of mine is/was a dealer for some of these, shoot me a message if you want me to see if he has any in stock. Doubt you'll make your own from scratch for much cheaper.

I'd be interested in those universal plates, sound perfect for use as castor plates in the geo.

In reply to 92CelicaHalfTrac:

PM sent. I do think I could make them for cheap considering they are just aluminum and a ball bearing.

I sent him an email asking if he still had 'em.

put me on that list for universal ones too. Could be the solution I need for my project.

Count me curious as well. I need camber pretty badly at autocross and I can drill.

Ok, i may not have remembered correctly... he just informed me that they're universal pillowball mounts.

I do---they were upper mounts with pillowballs, no adjustability though unless you drill multiple holes. I sell the normal camber plates---ksport's are pretty modable, I used them on the rear of my volvo s60 WC car...

If that's still interesting to anyone, let me know. I swear i've seen universal camber plates for cheap, though. Let me look around, might still have info in my pile of records.

(I think i'm going to grab a set of the pillowball mounts for the rear of the Escort.)

Are most camber plates aluminum or steel?

Working on it. Should have an answer today.

GRM Gods, is this sort of thread ok? I don't want to tread on anybody's toes or anything in terms of group buys or sponsoring or any of that stuff.

I don't know. It seems like most of the lateral force would go into the lower arm of a strut setup. It seems like a decent thickness of aluminum should take care of it...

You'll get braking forces through them as well as all the vertical loads on the car. But I've seen them in billet aluminum. Not a good mass production option, but fine for aftermarket.

Really, a pillowball mount is an upper strut mount. Move the points where it attaches to the body and you're adjusting camber.

Now that i think about it, i'm pretty sure the coilovers on the Celica have billet aluminum pillowball/camber plates.

I don't remember what the Cuscos on the Escort were, though.

Yeah I was just thinking about that. I am going to draw something up and play with my FEA I have here.

Little more than i thought, guys, sorry.

The rear universal upper mounts with pillowballs (you basically get a round plate and you have to shape it/fit it/drill holes where you like---oh and the bearing can be in the center of the plate or above/below the plate as well which can raise/lower the car without using the shock travel/spring) are about $140 a pair . The Ksport camber plates are like everything else around $200 or so depending on the car. You'll have to shape them and drill holes---but you should be able to get them up in there.

Hmm,for $140 a pair I'll just build my own. Thanks for tracking down the info my friend.
