"Smokey and the Bandit" taught us all a few important life lessons: Everyone needs a Basset Hound, 400 cases of Coors beer, and a black Trans Am sporting a gold screaming chicken.
But what about that third item on the list? Could a Trans Am in another color scheme work? Pontiac did offer several options–like silver with orange, gold with …

A coworker has a white body with blue bird on it. It's sharp.
I'm in the any color but black and gold for God's sake camp.

Umm.
White with blue stripes was the go-to on the T/A long before Smokey and The Bandit made black and gold the colour choice of every trailer park in the world.
In reply to ShawnG :
That's much better looking.

Grey/silver with a black eagle is pretty pimpin.
I dig the red shaker on the Thunderbolt & Lightfoot car
I didn't know I loved brown cars until a friend's dad got this:
I love the blue, but in '79 this was pimpin... Then the 80's came and this happened:
I've only ever seen one this color in person, i wouldn't kick it out of bed, but I'd have to wrap it or something...
The later 2nd gen cars like these seem harder to envision looking good in different colors, at least to me. Silver seems to work, or dark green. Maybe yellow?
A '70 Trans Am looks good in about anything. An '80 Trans Am, not so much.
I loved the pushed forward scoops on the Formula 400 - likes it gets way cooler air into the engine bay. Great color with cool factory wheels although not a TA.

A Formula is not a Trans-Am but they're both Firebirds.
I'll take one in Solar Gold please:
My 81 Turbo was Ontario Grey with the silver interior:

For those who were fans of the car long before Smokey and the Bandit came out, the classic combination of Lucerne Blue with a white stripe is hard to beat.

Shaker is bolted to the hood...
White with blue, Red, or Yellow.
Goregous Martinique Blue - 1978 only:
In 1979 they switched to slightly lighter but still beautiful Atlantis Blue:
Plenty more examples but clearly I'm partial to Blue.
There were a LOT more options than black & gold. Just in 1981, the year of my TA and the last of the line for 2nd gens, you could get a Trans Am in 13 different colors. On top of that you had 5 different colors for decals, plus the special editions (the black & gold ones people call "Bandits") and Pace car edition each had their own unique decals. For the interior you had your choice of standard (5 colors of vinyl and 2 of cloth) or deluxe (5 colors in vinyl and 5 in cloth), plus the pace car got it's own special red & black interior with Recaro seats. What would be more amazing is if you ever saw two Trans Am's that were exactly the same.
If it has quad headlights, it must be black and gold. Them's the rules.
FUNNY. I saw the headline and was like "oh, I gotta post about the blue and gold one that was up for sale..." ha

It's my car. Shaker is NOT bolted to the hood, however it is higher than stock. I'm really against bolting the shaker to the hood.

The gold combo is one of my favorites on the 78. On the 79, the Silver combo 20th anniversary.
My 75 was white with blue bird. However, I really liked the earlier earlier blue with white stripe.

I had a white '75 with a blue '74 sticker kit, I liked that combo.

Ahh, good.
Usually when they sit that high, it's a sure sign some goof has put a Chevy motor in it and rammed some sheet metal screws through the hood when they figured out that the shaker doesn't fit anymore.
For folks that don't understand, bolting the shaker to the hood is like putting a moustache on the Mona Lisa.
