'91 Legacy wagon, automatic, AWD.

I've got a dolly, but being AWD, I'm not sure how to go about towing with the fronts off the ground.

Can I just disconnect/remove the rear driveshaft?

That should be the correct method, yes.

Should be able to find a fuse in the underhood fuse box labeled FWD, intended just for this purpose.

And I just pull the fuse?

Yup. Verify in the owners manual. It was intended for towing the car when a flat bed wasn't available. Only on automatic cars, with certain transmissions. That is why I'd verify.

Correction, you have to put a fuse in. How far do you plan to tow? Disconnectiong the shaft is a wise thing if you are going a great distance.

Disconnect the shaft. It's always the proper way.

Disconnect the shaft. I've had E36 M3ty transmissions throw bolts when pushed. Its a good thing I was scrapping that transmission.

so you need to have a battery in the car and have this fuse installed if you want to tow it with a tow dolly?

this is why i prefer my dumb stupid domestic cars... they make more sense..

That's genius, a regular domestic car simply couldn't be towed at all. I'm assuming the fuse energizes the transmission fluid pump to keep everything lubricated?

Some of the AllTracs had a "tow mode" where they somehow just became FWD cars... It's not recommended you DRIVE them like that, but that's how you tow them.

In reply to Tom Suddard: just engergizes the pucks in the center diff allowing it to be open.
