We picked these up pretty cheap tonight.

Here's the markings if you need them bigger.

They were sold with these which I've already found the specs on. Not sure if they are actually related as they were in separate boxes.

Does anyone know the original application and more importantly the spring rate?

Edit: i re-read the original post and you already found the specs i did. Just ban me already.

Are the ones you know front springs from a BMW? Cuz the beehive ones sorta look like E36/e46 rears...

But they are huge.

The known ones are 80? Spring rate, 70mm id, 170mm length.

80 kg/cm is about 450 lb/in. The beehive ones don't use the same nomenclature so I suspect the two pairs aren't a set. You could figure the rate out. With only 4 working coils and pretty thick wire they look like they're pretty heavy duty.

Seller didn't know the application but the others are 80 spring rate 70 ID and 170 length and are listed by the manufacturer as a universal fit.

In reply to DeadSkunk :

The thick wire is misleading as the middle coils are wrapped in plastic.

As others have said, KW springs from an E36/E46 application. I looked around on ECS at the common applications that had photos that showed part numbers on the rear springs, but didn't see a match. If you look around more you might be able to figure it out. But even so, knowing the application won't get you the spring rate, as IIRC they're all just listed as "progressive" by KW. So your only choice is to measure it yourself. FWIW, the rear springs for my M Roadster (similar spring design and IIRC similar motion ratio to E36 stuff even though the spring placement is different) started in the high-200lb/in range and ramped up to around 500lb/in, so I assume these would be in the same general range.

Thanks, guess I'm going to have to buy an E36/E46 now so I can use them.

Supposedly e36 springs will fit an e39 up front.....

Any spring will fit if you're brave enough.
