As the title says... I'm so tired of seeing all these cheap manual-transmission MX-5s being posted for sale.

Stuff like this is so annoying...

San Diego has your back on this Tom. Lowest here right now is $8k:

FLorida and Atlanta have always been where to go to find super-cheap Miatas. It gives the GRM staff false impressions :)

Found one in Steamboat Springs for $5500 and a big hole in the roof. All the other NCs are five figures.

Although my favorite ad in my area right now is this one - the opening line is "Both miatas are mint..."

How hard would it be to fix the window in that first one?

Yup, would be very annoying if someone were to post a cheap NC1 with a blown motor in TX

I keep wondering how good NCs are now that they are cheaper than NAs.

I'd recommend you drive one. They're good little sports cars, but they're not the same little sports cars as the NA and NB. You need to decide if it sparks joy.

Is there an easy way (aside from the window sticker) to determine if an NC came with a limited slip?

If you cruise through the brochures on Miata.net, you can see when/how it was available. I'm pretty sure it was always paired with the Bilstein shocks and NEVER with the automatic trans. You can also call Mazda's customer service line with the VIN, they're actually quite helpful about that.

I'm sure you are right about that.  The NA just feels right and it defines "Miata."  I'm sure I'd love the ND too but current car pricing is problematic.  The NC seems to be something different.

Is a Miata hardtop alone really worth $2500.00 or not?

I paid $2400 for a NC hardtop that ultimately is supposed to be refunded to me due to COVID-related overseas shipping difficulties, so I'd say yes.

Love my NC, I love it more than my na8. The NA was an eager puppy. The NC is upgraded suspension away from true sports car territory. It's chassis is considerably better than its predecessor. I scooped up my LSD out of a 28,000mi car in the wrecker. Got the vin, called Mazda. They confirmed. $260.00 later and I had an "$1,100.00 lsd" in my hand.

I have never really understood the hate for the NC. For me it's the Miata I always wanted.

The stock suspension is totally awful but when you get that fixed and put some good rubber on I feel like it's just as fun as my NA was, except it's not a punishment to drive at freeway speeds with the top down and my 6'3" frame actually fits with some degree of comfort (seat lowering brackets and steering wheel extension made things even better, FWIW).

People talk about them like they were co-developed with Buick or something. I have a feeling they will be critically re-evaluated now that they are reaching such low prices and getting snatched up by people unafraid to modify them.

I will concede that the NC crowd on Miata.net is kind of a weird group of old curmudgeons repeating half-truths and I don't love it. I struggled to grind out 100 posts to get classified posting abilities...if that is the average NC owner I guess I can see where the reputation comes from, but the cars are better than that.

I double check the ad. It's for an NA or NB.  Does that change anything?

I think NA/NB hardtops are still pretty valuable, but not as much as NC hardtops (which are psychotically rare).

I'm not an expert on NA/NB top value but I know not too long ago you could still get them brand new from Mazda (unpainted) for just under $2000.

I snagged a super cheap NC from a GRM listing ($2k!!), and I've had a few NA Miatas that I've found and brought back to life as well.  Actually, I had an NA and NC at the same time for a bit last year.  It all depends what you're looking for.  The NA is exactly like Definitely gone now says, a happy puppy.  The car is super eager and can be used to its full potential in stock form just trying to get from stop light to stop light.  The NC is more capable right out of the box, even with 200k miles.  More power, more grip, and not really much more weight.  Mine had working AC and cruise so it was a bit more comfortable on the daily commute.  But at the end of the day I wanted the one that made me smile very time I drove it, and that was the NA.

I've had two NCs, much better than the NA I had.

And for that matter, my previous NC I bought from another GRM member here in 2020 is going back up for sale here in OKC. It has a truly ridiculously awesome suspension/brake setup with some other goodies.

I prefer the characteristics of the NC over the NA and NB, but I'd be using it as a daily driver. The general lack of a removable hard top is the only part I don't like about them.

I've still not driven an ND because I'm afraid I'd like it and want to buy one.

Inexpensive ones are rare on the ground around here. A car with a blown engine will easily sell for $2k or more.

I agree with Keith there are two local olders ones in crap condition, one with engine out and the other completely rusted for $2500. These should be begging people to take them away.

Really, it's getting sold again?  I regret selling that one, it was very very good and it's replacement isn't nearly as comfortable.  I might be too old for a hardcore turbo NA.
