The Capri project continues...
My original plans were to get the car completely restored to Improved Touring specs, circa 1989, and then Auto-X and vintage race it, but since that is a long-term goal my sons have convinced me to have some fun with it along the way. I've seen cars in primer at events before, so I wouldn't be the first.
The motor runs well now , I am rebuilding the fuel cell and the brakes, and I just scored a Butler Built seat that is identical to the one I used to have in it.
TIRES I need new tires. When I was racing, the Yokohama A008 was the hot tire in IT. The size I need is 205/60/13 so it seems I am limited to the Hoosier R6 or the Toyo R888 or R1.
Recommendations? I know they are all good tires, the Toyos are a bit cheaper. I will do a few AutoX events in the next 12-24 months, and then hopefully a school to get my license back.
What is the "shelf life" of these tires? Will they still have enough life (not tread life) left in 24 months to do a drivers school or will they be too hard and brittle after that amount of time?
I looked at used tires, but I didn't really see a big enough price difference unless someone can point me to a good source.
Should I get them shaved? I did when I was road racing.
Thanks for the input!
