I've got all of those covered with the exception of the ex rental and ex press fleet. Well I never bought a camaro with death metal stickers either, but I did buy a Trans Am that was involved in a hit and run and the interior was full of cans of Busch beer (both empty and full), so I think that should count.

Does it count that I've added them to a Camaro?

If so, I've got 8-10 covered. Same two as you... no press fleet or ex-rentals here (that I'm aware of... most have had no history :) ).

Looks like a good guide for soccer moms buying cars from other soccer moms.

Meh. Author trying too hard to write a humor piece. No useful information was contained therein.

One of our favorite cars was an ex-rental car. THe Grand Vitara was a rental in a previous life and we then put 90k trouble free miles on it after the fact. Put a set of front pads and two sets of tires on that thing.

i didn't read the article- just the headlines- and it looked to me like it's a list of things that i look for in a car... for example, old cop cars are the shizz, and a salvage title means i can get it cheaper..

My first car checked off like half of this list.

I'm surprised they didn't include something along the lines of "avoid rust", with the bottom "caution" simply stating to never buy a car from New England.

In reply to GameboyRMH:

I've seen that car - I think it may have had some wear and tear on it that isn't reported by car fax.

I haven't owned a Camaro at all- and the only ones I ever drove weren't covered in death metal stickers. I'm pretty sure I have all of the above covered otherwise. I know at LEAST one of my Corollas was a rental car.

C&D's main recommendations are usually along the lines of 'buy the latest and greatest' anyways. I suppose that is their target audience too. I'm glad, it just helps reinforce these stereotypes and makes the cheap cars I want even cheaper.

C&D, Motor Trend, R&T, ETC have been in a downward spiral for years now.....

That article just lowers the value of the typical cars I look at so let them write all they want.

That's OK, so was the Bill of Sale for my car.

I've owned all of that list in pretty much one car.

My parents had a grand vitar a they got off lease and had about the same experience for up to like 120k I think. Just oil changes, brakes and tires

Shoot, one of my cars was reviewed by C&D in 1988. It was the press car for the Dodge Colt GT Turbo. About the only one I ever saw with power windows, locks, and cruise control.

It was a great car. I miss it.

Weird I never had a death metal sticker on my f-bodies. Only blazing at volume 11 from the inside with t-tops off, cutoff sleeves, and a cold 12 pack of natty light in the trunk on my way to a circle track race on a bitchin' Saturday night.

I think the rental car thing is a total myth in today's world. You can't rent if you are under 25, fleets tend to get excellent maintenance, and the people who rent cars tend to be businesspeople just shuttling from the airport to meetings and back. 99.5% of rental cars get better and more routine maintenance than normal cars, especially now that most of the large chains have their own used-car dealerships.

In all honesty I'm surprised C&D is still in business. Their rag went to the E36 M3ter years ago.
