So my first day of vacation was spent trying to get the Audi Coupe GT started again. As you may have guessed it did not play nice and refuses to run on anything other than the Cold Start Valve!

The engine is a 2.2 lire I-5 with KE-Jetronic mechanical injection. I have been beating my head against a proverbial wall for a year on this thing and it just wont run for me.

I went over the gas lines, and no leaks. I went back over the Intake boot, took it right off and put it back on, cleaned out the inside of it while I was there. checked the 'Y' hose to ensure that I had that in right and still nothing! I replaced all the vacuum lines last year so they are all new, aside from the one that goes out the front passenger side fender which is just a breather tube anyway. The only thing I have not done yet is pour injector cleaner down its throat with a few gallons of gas to get it running.

Other than that I got the brake lights working but found out that the rear taillights don't work. I am hoping this is just because the car isn't running. The bulbs for the taillights dont seem to fit well. They are not snug fitting like the others. So I added some dilithium grease to them but still no go. Anyway who needs night lights in the rear right? I mean as long as the brake lights work then you pass the track safety! LOL

Anyway, thought ideas on what to do about the car not running on its own? How about the rear tail lights?

fuel pump works I assume? I am just wondering if the taillights and the non-running condition are related through a bad ground at the rear of the car or not

Back to basics... fuel pressure, spark, timing... read theKE-Jetronic manual and if that fails start that megasquirt project :)

First step is to see if the fuel pump runs, methinks. There is a relay in the fuse panel under the hood also. When you first turn the key to 'on' the pump should run briefly. If you determine the pump is dead just head to the pick-a-part and get one from a 4000q. The 4 cyl one is different, as are the 5000 versions. Not sure about the Quantums with the I-5.

You did say the cold start injector works, so perhaps there is fuel. Mine actually burnt the end of the coil wire inside the boot once which was fun to diagnose.

Oh, does it have the 'spare' fuse in it's position in the fuse block? One of the fuses that looks like a spare actually controls a running function. Can't recall which one exactly it is. Real common problem.

Find out if it's fuel or fire and report back.

The fuel pump gives us the buzz when the key is in the On position and buzzes after the Cold Start Valve closes.

I have browsed K Jetronic manual and the Bentley repair manual for the car.

I also checked all the fuses and they all look good but still nothing.

Walter -- You don't know how I have toyed with a mega squirt / 034 Motorsports / Motec fuel injection system, the only thing that holds me back for that is $$$$.

Anything else that I am missing guys. This has got me stumped and thinking evil thoughts about 911s that are sharing the storage space where the Audi is. Again $$$ keep me from pursuing that avenue.

Thanks again guys.
