Taking a week's vacation to visit some friends in Winter Harbor. We'll mostly be traveling back and forth from Portland and around Bangor. I know, I know, "Ya cahn't get theah from heah."
Any car-related stuff to do or see in that area? Any events happening around the 6th through 13th of August.
Thanks!

If you feel like driving a few hours, Cumberland Motor Club is hosting a 2 day autocross event at Loring AFB on the 9th and 10th. That group is very friendly(ride-alongs welcome), has some cool cars, and Loring is HUGE.

Thanks for the suggestion, but not a lobster fan. Maybe because they remind me of the cockroaches we have here in Houston, some of which are bigger than your average lobster.
Get to the coast and drive along Route 1. Any time you see a cutoff for 1A, take that. I spent an entire summer doing that on a motorcycle. Best summer of my life. Keep the ocean over your right shoulder and it just keeps getting better. Try your left shoulder on the way home.

Loring is a few hours like Britain is a short swim.
Not car related, but still fun:

Bar harbor is always a nice visit and the drive (or hike if you are boring) up to Cadillac mountain is not only picturesque but just a damn fun drive. August is a good time on the coast because most tourists are on the way out but everything is still open till early September.
If you want something a little off the beaten path the next island down called Deer Isle/Stonington (my home town!) is the most new england coastal town you can fathom.
Have fun!

Get in one and leave as quickly as you can. The late Summer in Maine is INSANE with black flies and mosquitoes ! ! !
