Yeah, probably a bit of survivorship bias. Just a quick check of wikipedia, shows 2.5 million Fox Mustangs made from 1979-1993 model years...and 3.6 million first gen Ford Ford Econoboxs from 1981-1990.
EDIT: I think I just found an anti-spam word substitution. Think compact FWD Ford that was all over the place back in the 80s/90s

Lock scratch guards
Yosemite Sam mudflaps
Aftermarket retrofit 3rd brake lights for older cars (there's a guy around here with a customized 1960 Ford Fairlane with one of these things sticking off the back deck like E.T. taking a look around, and it's AWFUL)
Some of the trends identified as extinct are starting to come back around as vintage vehicle accessories, like the "old man truck" straight vertical bug deflectors and rear window louvers. I like seeing the older stuff with "Day 2" mods, but slapping rear louvers on your 2019 Civic sedan... nah. It's just not right.

I put one of those CMHSL retrofits on our Olds Aeroback back in 1986 or so. Looked factory on that car. But you're right, that's not a big seller these days :)
I miss these, and being able to just crack the back open a little or a little more if you want. If warranted, you could remove the whole thing and put it in the trunk, or if you're like me and have no friends, in the back seat

I see very few modded FWD cars around here. It's transitioned to obnoxious straight piped VQ cars and newer mustangs. Big change from when I was in high school during the F&F era. It's probably because that's what's 15 years old and cheap now, but still.

Oh yeah, another ancient early internet car parts site that still works!!! I wrote a story about some of these a few years ago. I get a kick out of them.
I almost forgot to say that Miatas are cool with the youth now. The jokes I would get in highschool have been replaced with teens yelling "cool Miata" at me. The secret is out!

The Chrysler Conquest/Mitsubishi Starion had one of the absolute best iterations of this that I've ever seen.
One of the few things done well on that car.

It seems the local sport compact scene morphed into rally car style Focus/Fiesta ST/Subarus (brap crackle crackle pop) and rwd 6 cylinder "drift" cars. I see some stance show car type modifications but not as much of that because Michigan roads.
Really though 90% of modified vehicles around here are trucks.

Last weekend I saw a Veloster with the F&F 1 side decals. The robot-knight one from the Supra? Closest I've seen for one.
