Looking for value input. Not necessarily what us tightwads would pay, but fair market value so I can price appropriately.
We have a 2000 Celica GT that was purchased new by SWMBO and needs to get gone. Tired of paying for property tax, tags, & insurance on a car that somebody has to be forced to drive occasionally to keep it running. It is a basic GT with approx. 186k miles, manual trans, sunroof (only option over base GT IIRC), aftermarket radio. Needs include probably an AC condenser (looks to have a chunk of wood that penetrated a tube - evaporator replace a couple of years ago), dampers (not "dangerous" but definitely have seen better days), has the check engine light on (think it's the precat code, but it's been a while since I checked it). Uses engine oil (supports the precat failure). Has peeling clearcoat on the nose, hood, roof, hatch, spoiler and a bit on top of the doors. 1 owner, never smoked in, southern car with no structural rust (only rust is surface rust where the paint is chipped due to rocks). I have an aftermarket all aluminum radiator, new hoses, t-stat, etc. (essentially a complete new cooling system all oem except the rad) that hasn't been installed. No current coolant leaks/issues, but it's 17 years old with plastic tanks so it's due. Car gets 30 mpg in mixed commuting and 37 mpg on the highway at 75 mph. Has been reliable and most maintenance other than fluids, brakes, and tires was done at the dealer.
Yeah, that's a car I would see on Craigslist for $2000 around here.

People seem to think these cars are valuable here along the coast, but I'd agree even here that's a $2k car max.
This is the part where we ask you to post pictures of the car...
Sub two large around here too.
In reply to Woody:
Just took a couple of the exterior. Didn't have keys handy. Car has not been cleaned up or prepped in any way.

In reply to secretariata:
Are those the steel wheels with hubcaps?

I would say the CEL would scare off most potential buyers looking for some cheap transportation and the clearcoat would turn off kids looking for a sporty looking car. I agree with the rest of the guys, I've seen stuff like this listed at 1500-2000$--not sure what they end up selling for though.
Fix the cell and put a $500 Maco paint job on it and it becomes;
Fresh paint no cells average mileage for its age. $3500 car.
My rule is I will by a car with mechanical or body issues but both both. That car implies un loved non car person owned run hard and put away wet. That will make it tough to get more than 2k.
That car is <1k car around here.
I just saw one while running an errand that had $4700 on the windshield.
In reply to spitfirebill:
Do you mean that you saw 47 $100 bills tucked under the windshield wiper, or did someone scrawl "$4700" on the glass with white shoe polish?
Big difference...
In reply to Woody:
Believe it or not, I edited that post twice to make it less ambiguous. I guess I should have edited it three times.
Maybe 1500.
Something like this is $2300 here
https://austin.craigslist.org/cto/6083453378.html
Is it a northern or southern car? If northern, $1000. If southern, $1500. If western (west of I-35), $2000.
Ironic that my co-worker asked me about 2000 Celica today, not a GT. Everything works, >120k miles, manual, aftermarket wheels, aftermarket exhaust (loud) and throws a code related to the exhaust. Also has a varying idle also attributed to the code. The code is something to do with O2 sensor. He's not a car guy and didn't know much else. That's why he talked to me, I'm the known car guy in the office. Buying it for his son. I think he said 3k for it. His son really wants it and already planning more mods (in the way of sound system) so he's buying it. Warned him about the exhaust system, it's fixable but I haven't seen it so don't know what it'll take or how much exhaust system is on the car. Maybe just a fart can. Said his mech will make it right. OK.
