Enjoy your ex police car. My son enjoys his Impala 9C1. I enjoy driving it also. You get more respect, such as: people moving over; out of the way; waving you through 4 way stop signs; waving in general;getting discounts at the fast food drive throughs even.
A couple of years ago I was at a demo derby where a guy had an older mid 90's model Crown Vic. It finished 2nd. You couldn't kill it. It was hangin tough with the big boxy Impala Station Wagons, Sedans, and other full size barges

well just tanked it up. With the low fuel light on it only cost me $30 to fill it up. Gas is cheap here $1.89

Do it! By a P71 then swap in a swanky leather Grand Marquis interior. It won't be quite BMW fit/finish, but it is VERY luxurious. Think about it...
I unloaded a 318i for mine. That was a lot easier.
The bimmer brought the same $$ that the p71 cost me. I jumped 9 years newer, twice the power, bmw had rust/ford does not(yet), and slightly worse fuel economy but I quit buying premium.
It goes faster on 87 swill. More Octane = Less Bang, just better resistance to knock. The stock CR and cam profile in a 4.6 isn't radical enough to knock 87 in anything but the worst conditions, so run the 87 and go fast.

I did that to my 9C1 - put Roadmaster leather power seats in, turned out pretty nice.

Yeah. I have another sports car, the Miata. The BMW is now getting used as an appliance, not a sportscar. I don't baby it as much as someone else probably would. I care when something gets hurt on it.
Plus, I'd pocket at least $10k, after buying an appliance, and could have a tow vehicle. Although, it would be more difficult to park at work.
18.X MPG driving like a 19 year old would when he buys a new cop car for himself.

If its anything like the 80's crown vics I used to drive (same basic platform), its turning radius is way tighter than a car that big should have.
the turning radius is amazing for a big car
mine is going in for performance trans rebuild with trans-go shift kit and some other stuff. with what i paid for mine i expected and had in budget a tranny rebuild and for what the guy is doing it for including R+R i'm dropping the car off and letting him do it. a first for me, but we've known him a long time and he has done 2 for my uncle. and i don't have time to drop a tranny right now.
If my transmission ever has to come out, it's not going back in. I'm either going to do a budget T45 swap or I'm going to bit the bullet and go LS1...
hmm after i use my astro to tow all my crap down from MI i think it'll be going up FS... i want a p71 :)... wonder how big the donk tax is around here though :-/ (i'm 2 hrs from hotlanta)
what is the offical tow rating on them?
I hope the ithaca Brain Trust (Cornel) will have some for sale in the spring, they sell them of at 3 years and 75K for about $3K

i had the whole t45 swap ready to go but this isnt my play car, i like getting in and putting it in D and going.
i want to get that cool OBDII scanner/MPG/ code reader thing. linky? there was a big thread on it but i cant find it.

IIRC, the P71's didn't have a crumple zone.
Well, just changed the coil packs, boots, and sparkplugs and a PCV valve. $360 ouch...
Runs great though :) this thing is so much fricken fun

Turning radius isn't my concern. The narrow parking spaces in the garage are my concern. I'm sure I could maneuver it into a spot, I'm just not sure I'd be able to open the door.

they ALL failed?! Usually just one or two at a time. Who's doing the work?
how come you changed the coil packs?
Jackson County had a series of OE coils go bad with their cars and my NAPA store kept a stock of eight in their facility at any one time.
It is not unheard of.
