What about the Escorts with the 1.9? Wasn't there a thread on that recently?
Thanks for all the ideas guys, I figured I'd probably have to get a light 2wd car to meet my requirements.
Another idea I've been entertaining to fill my DD (good gas mileage with performance) position is something with an engine swap. Civics/CRX's jump to mind. A B18 in a Civic would liven it up quite a bit, I'd still have stock reliability, and it'd have that "go fast" ability. Although a turbo does sound nice...

And could anyone enlighten me about the 1.9? Tried to search and couldn't find much info...if I'm willing to go FI with it, is it worth looking into along with the 1.8 BP?

I've done some light reading about boosting the 1.9. IIRC, the recipe is pre-'95 bottom, 2.0 head and '97 fuel rail, for starters.
My mother has a very nice 01 Integra gs 1.8/5spd with 84k on it for sale, $5.5K. Adult owned, completely stock and unmolested, perfect mechanical condition, very reliable, 30mpg, and on and on. Its hard to find an integra that hasnt been a JDM fanbois cumrag these days, so i think its a rare find.
Its a very nice car! I can email pics if you want. Im probably going to detail it tomorrow and put it on CL.
Now you guys have got me wanting a 9000 Aero 2.3T.
My mother drives a non-turbo 9000 2.3 automatic, and even that's a pretty impressive car for what it is.

If you get "stuck" with the 1.9, then boost it. If you don't currently have an escort, then just find one with the 1.8. 1.9 owners can gnash their teeth all they want, but it makes sense to start with the car with the far superior motor.
EGTs/LTSs/LXEs/PLXs are cheap anyways.

They also have a ridiculously strong motor. Like... it'll handle a metric E36 M3 ton of boost before it starts to fall apart.
Put a Holset HX35 on it and go have a blast.
944 Turbo
Mine gets me 28 mpg daily driving and stock does 160 mph. 300 crank hp is only a $300 chip away. 350 whp is $2000 away when do do a turbo swap.
Travis_K wrote: If i were you id look for a mk2 vw, and swap the ABA into it, that would be alot more fun. :) I have driven a 86 gti with a worn out ABA that was stock except for a chip and 262 cam, even that was pretty impressive. If you are lucky, you can get a neuspeed supercharger for around $400.
I'm with you. The ABA is a great torquey motor, but the mkIII chassis is weak and heavy. 3 years of track and street and the ABA in my mkII is still strong and would be awesome with boost.
