Where was that picture taken?

Your neck of the woods! March of 2020 I was leaving Tahoe for Covid and wanted to do something fun and outdoors and I saw a random pull off south of the Hoover Dam. It's the Kingman Wash lookout

I bought my 06 mustang gt in december of 05.  I cannot say enough of how I love this car.  Clunky and raw, the car is just great.  I drove a friends cobra r and realized my car compared was a grocery getter.  I HAD to install a kenne bell supercharger.  More love ensued.  I went into a deep funk when I had to put the car away in winter.  I then discovered autocross!   I have done 95% of the work on this car and have changed it into an even more raw uncomfortable car.  A car that is worth every extra drop of gas burnt, every bump in the road, I just love this car.  I love it more than the day I bought it.

To get around my funk I ended up with an 05 mustang that I drive in the winter.  I love this platform and love having another mustang that is a daily driver year round.  It is great to be blessed enought to have a car that I risk at hill climbs and abuse horribly in the Maine winters and at rally cross.

I have pretty much loved all of my cars,  the only ones low are the list were the very few automatic cars or trucks.    The 06 mustang was the in which car I learned auto cross.  So many happy memories in that car.  For me this platform was love at first drive and has only grown through the years.

I've been thinking about the many vehicles I've owned and the few that I've kept long term and why. For me I'd define long term at least 10 years.

I've never owned any vehicle for 10 years, so I guess I'm out... blush

I started driving or more correctly riding in 1978. It took until probably 2007 before I started keeping cars longer then about 3-5 years.

The Datsun was the only constant.

Of the four cars and three motorcycles in my garage only one has been owned for less than 11 years.

I still have the '71 GMC 1500 longed pickup that Dad and bought together in 1982. V-8 automatic with no power steering or brakes. At least it has front disc brakes. On the third engine, 327 and turbo 400 transmission. Added power steering and brakes.

Still have my 1998 Dodge Avenger I bought in 2005.

Have a 2005 Chevrolet Impala that I got from Mom around 2015 when a dealer offered her $500 trade in for it. She told him that she would bury it in the backyard with a pick and shovel before she took that little for  it. Mom can be a little feisty sometimes.

of all the vehicles i've loved, only the first Odyssey had to grow on me.

the list of vehicles i owned but never loved includes my 1994 Sentra SE-R. Maybe because it fell short of the 1995 Integra GSR hatch it replaced, as well as the 1996 Probe GT which replaced it.

Over the years I never kept cars very long, a few years at best, but I feel like we've finally got our 'forever' fleet now that we're retired.   We've had fun driving a variety of stuff, but what we have now meets our needs and wants pretty well.  The one that probably changed everything for us was our first Miata, and that was something I never would have expected.

I bought our NA Miata on a whim as a replacement for a two-up motorcycle for Sunday drives with my wife.  That one decision bloomed into 4 other Miatas and all kinds of adventures over the last 14 years.  We still have that NA, which is now a dedicated track car and both my wife and I drive it on track.  I'm very proud of the fact that other than alignments and some tuning, no one else has ever turned a wrench or worked on it during our ownership.  I never expected a silly little convertible that I bought on a lark to affect our lives so much.

'76 Capri MkII. Purchased in Portland OR February 1979, I've dragged (drugun?) that car to California, Michigan,  and now to my final resting place in Washington state. Pic below is just before we loaded it on the trailer to move it to WA. Want to change the Mac Struts to SLA, and there's a 331 Ford that dynoed at 380 hp sitting under the stairway in the barn, a T5Z, and it has an lsd in the rear axle

Liked the coupla G body el Camino's, may need to get another when the 97 Dakota I DD dies

I didn't mention it in my post, because I've only had it a little over two years, but I have a Mk1 in the fleet.  I had one in high school that was stolen, and it took me nearly 40 years to replace it.  It's impossible to say if I would have kept the first one all this time, but I really love the Capris and all the racing history that goes with them.  Now I just need to find the time for the work it needs to get back on the track!
