I have a crack in the catalytic converter on my 4 cyl Ranger. (half way round the body, just behind the centre) I hit a deep water puddle on I75 about 8 years ago and heard it crack. I took it to a local fab shop and they welded the cracks. That is still intact. It cracket at a new place. (half way round again) My question is since I am a better brazer than welder do you thing brazing would hold? It still has the guts in it so it generates heat and emissions are required in metro Atl.so gutting it realy isnt an option. I dont have time to take it to a fab shop again.

Braze will work, but what you should do is make sheet metal strap wider than the crack. With that brazed in place it should hold fine.

do you need a cat to pass inspection/emission? if not, just put in a pipe and save the hassle/cost.
