Not my first catless exhaust, but my first on a rear engine convertible. I never noticed any stink on my other cars, this one seems to.... Its on on the freeway etc, but in traffic it kinda sucks.
Shouldn't EFI be pretty non stinky? I am throwing a CEL for post cat o2 sensor heater circuit if that will mess with it.
All catless cars stink in my experience.
Compared to a full emissions car, catless cars will smell. You might want to look at how you exhaust is exiting.
Imagine though, that multiplied by 1000's (non-efi, more cars etc), was what we where used to, and barely noticed back in the day.

Its right behind the lip of the bumper, that may be part of the issue.
Its true, i can always tell when i am behind an old carb'ed car or truck too....
Its not bad with the top up, so its probably the way the air moves around the back of the car with the top down as well.
I also find the higher the octane, the less putrid stink level. They still smell, but it's at least more tolerable.
Strange. My turbo rotary smells sweeter than roses. Might be an acquired taste, though.

Weird, it's not that stinky really, I can smell it a little, but i get a headache...
And 2 stroke smell is a totally different animal.
Headache tend to be CO induced. I've always noted that combustion chamber shame seems to dictate what kind of leftover HC's are present, which is what you smell.
Do you have your windows down? Because that will cause a draft to pull in the cabin.

I'll tell my combustion chambers to be less ashamed
Bought a used Exhaust with the cat removed... May have to put a high flow one in, I don't feel like poisoning myself too much.

oops. ShaPe.
It's pretty easy to smell the difference between an Alfa, Ford small block, or Chevy small block.
Before you spend the money- make sure it's running right and the O2 sensors both work. No reason to spend money just to damage the catalyst really quickly.
Always loved the smell of my E30 M3. Notice I didn't say E36M3.

Ha I got what you were saying.
I have a code for the post cat o2 heater circuit not working, that's the only thing being thrown or pending.
In reply to akylekoz:
It doesn't really have much smell at all, just headaches after traffic.....

Yup. I've had several catless (temporarily) EFI cars.
Our Rallyx Sentra is currently catless. Do. not. like.
Hope to have this corrected by the next event.
I drive a catless carb'd car, if the winds blowing it back at me i can smell it but i like the smell. Maybe im so used too it that i never noticed it on my EFI cars.
Maybe put a cat back on it? I've not seen where removing them has gained enough to outweigh their loss.
Just me though.

The smell reminds me of driving a snowmobile from the 1970s.

Thats the plan, used exhaust was bought with it removed.
We really have become pansies about the smell of exhaust. Any hint of unburnt hydrocarbons bothers me quite a bit now. I used to be able to walk around in a blue fog and never notice.
As to advice, I'd say put a cat on it, or put the roof up.

My carb'd RX7 has no cats and smells lovely. Race gas and Amsoil dominator pre-mix oil are a great combo!
I've had customers come to us with decatted cars to have converters put back on because they couldn't stand the smell.

If you're getting a headache due to carbon monoxide and a cat is put on, how does that keep you from still getting a CO-caused headache?
Because the cat will reduce the amount of CO exiting the exhaust along with NOx and HCs. It's kinda the point.
Want to make it smell better? Use E85.

Well that was all that was changed. Just header and up pipe.

I dont think its suppsoed to run e85
