That's pretty nice! I remember awhile back there was a thread on here featuring another S2K engined old Celica, but it was white.. and very clean. Gave me wood!

If it had a honda engine in it that was swapped there in the '70s and was correct for the period, I'd like it more. But if you're going through the trouble putting a new engine, stick with the manufacture. Get a S600 and swap in a S2000 engine, now thats car porn. Or a newer supra or 4.0 V8 into the Celica.

I have to disagree Ross, the 4.0 V8 or Supra I-6 would make the car extremely nose heavy.

I don't find swapping a different manufacturer's engine into a vintage car sacriligeous. In the 60's some people put Chevy V8s into old Ferraris, Chevy V8s still get swappped into Jaguars, Datsuns, etc. Mazda Miata engines get put in MGBs. The British seem to stick a Rover V8 in anything with wheels. I could go on, but you get the idea...

FWIW, I say that the S2000 engine is the best thing to ever happen to an old Celica.

I dont mind the cross manufacturers thing if its a done in a period way. I'd prefer a vintage "this" into a vintage "that". I understand the fun factor or the S2000 engine over the toyotas I suggested; since toyota doesnt have an all aluminum 4 banger ready to mount to a RWD transmission the S2000's is a pretty good option. (Or do they?)

All the Celicas then looked kinda like 3/4 scale Camaros. I'll take one like this please.

1) peace of celica history? PEACE!

2) toyota had decent high revving I4's in the beams and altezza. Not as light as F22.

3) Not sure I want a car with 15,000 including "years of SCCA fun (abuse)"

Not necessarily aluminum, but the original motor wasn't aluminum either, so if we're hung up on the weight aspect, there's quite a few options that should keep within reasonable balance:

N/A: BEAMS 3sge (2.0 litre) 3rd gen 3sge (2.0 litre) 4age 20v (1.6 litre) 2zzge (1.8 litre) 1uzfe (aforementioned 4.0 litre v8. It's NOT that heavy.)

Yeah, none of them bolt up, but that argument is pretty invalid considering what ended up getting put in there.

The 3rd gen 3sge has been proven to make similar power to that F22, granted it'll take a bit more to get there, but the initial cost is FAR less.

Nice turbo candidates: 4agze/"4agte" 3tc turbo 3sgte

Honestly, much as i'm a HUGE fan of the 3sgte, it would be my last choice in this car. Weighs about the same as the 4.0 litre v8, doesn't make as much power stock, and a good one is more expensive.

I'd probably personally do the 3tc turbo over anything else. Semi-period correct, cheap, simple, fairly light.

Sorry for the tangent. Everytime any of my buddies see one of these swaps they start spouting off about how it was done because Toyota doesn't have anything that would do near the same thing and blah blah blah, and i have to correct them.

That being said, i love Honda motors. In hondas.

Not to take anything away from this car, but I think the white S2K Celica was slightly better executed. Just, cleaner, or something. And it sold for $12,000. http://bringatrailer.com/2009/01/23/bat-exclusive-amazing-1971-toyota-celica/

Although, this red one has the ITB's and possibly a better suspension set-up.

Either way, the F20C into old Toyota conversion gets my whole hearted approval! Only thing I do dislike is the digital dash.

I've only ever had 1 problem with the F20C swap: The engine looks so incredibly DULL!

Seriously, that is the most uninspired valve cover possible I think. Even with my aversion to Hondas, It makes power, and it sounds good for a 4 banger.

I personally disagree with the I6 swaps, as they are all ridiculously heavy; as heavy as iron block SBCs pretty much. And when you consider that these cars are nose heavy from the factory, adding more weight out there just doesn't make sense to me.

I might have a twisted idea for my own RA21 that would likely sit ill with some, but whatever.

If I recall correct, the dash is necessary to be able to run the engine. I think its integrated into the ECU. Or something like that.

Swapping engines of different manufacture is the foundation of hot rodding. Does anyone bat a eye at a 32 Ford running a 350 Chevy?

My biggest concern is those ITBs - more accurately, the "filters" attached to them. 11,000 miles with nothing more than flyscreen protecting the engine? Umm, no thanks.

Those mesh screens bug me. They flow worse than a good foam filter (my Seven makes the same power with and without the big ITG filter) but they don't offer any significant filtering. A perfect example of form far outweighing function.

i was thinkin'... there's lots of room in that engine bay for a turbo.... as if that wasn't powerful enough!

You are correct. From what I've read you have to have the oem cluster, ecu, ignition ring, key, and etc for everything to play nice. If that sounds difficult read up on the guys attempting 350z swaps into older Z's... nissan's NATS system hates everyone. You have to have a laundry list of electronic components, all from the same vehicle, or the ECU won't play. Eventually the aftermarket may step in like it has for popular hot rod engines like the LS1 and the new hemi's. I just don't know if import swaps will ever be that popular.

But until then, the digital dash, if it does indeed "need" to be present, could have been stowed behind the dash and analog gauges use (or the factory gauges modified and used) if the digital look was not to your tastes.

No kidding about the 350Zs. I remember watching them stuff one into a Honey Bee on Monster Garage. I thought the electronics guy's head was going to explode.

My thought echo'ed Keith's: wtf no filters on the ITB's? 11000 miles without filtration? No thanks. Two letters: K&N. Learn them, love them, install them.
Otherwise I'm a big fan.

He's selling it because of the money.

Seriously, if I had a scary fast car I'd just invest more in saftey equipment.

Maybe he came close to hitting a kid on a backroad or something?

More like "I don't know if a single import swap will ever be that popular". You can actually buy an ECU and wiring kit for an LSx designed for motor swaps straight from GM. It's a really nice piece, even including a drive-by-wire throttle pedal.

Yeah, I think my biggest problem with the LS swaps are that they make too much power. And that I like smaller cars which may not be the best spot for them.

tooo much power is that posible.. one of my fav cars of all time was the red Pontiac Solstice that i think hot rod did with a LS7 that thing was wild. other than that the only other swap I would think of you be a turbo rotory or if you want a period stuff a nice 12a proted all to hell
