I disagree. The liftbacks look like Mustangs to me.

Here's my liftback:

Everything from the door handle back is an almost blatant copy of the lines from a '69-70 fastback.

For comparison:

That being said, I've seen a few F20/22 swaps into 1st gens. I don't find it to be sacreligious, but I wouldn't do it myself. I'd rather do a BEAMS motor if I could somehow make that pass smog

If you're referring to my above post, I'd think an LS1'ed twist my MG into a pretzel. Big motors have been done, but I also think that for such a light vehicle a high-rev dohc 4 cyl is a more, how do you say, elegant solution. An LS1 is a Pollock from a paintball gun. Mother-berkleying job gets done. Fast.

4age 20v is like having the world wired to your foot. Nothing mind bending in the torque sense, but its there.

Still never driven an LS1. A bit gun shy after my first Porsche experience two weeks ago getting pulled over.

Drive an LS1. You might be surprised. The motor's got a great reputation for a reason. I'm a convert, and I have two highly-built Miata motors in my garage. I speak throttle response :)

I expect my MGB will actually lose weight with the LS1 compared to that lump of mowog I pulled out.

Love that liftback Celica. It could be argued that it's an improvement on the Mustang shape.

In reply to ReverendDexter:

I stand corrected. I guess I never saw the liftback. My bad.

Are you going to actually force me to look for a BGT and pull the LS1 stunt? I'll start looking for the camaro- or was it the l33 from the truck that you recommended?

The L33 looks like it has the potential for a bargain buy, but you'll have to piece it together with various eBay and swap meet finds. The Camaro makes life easy as you get everything you need (well, all the parts) in one package. I went for the latter.

Don't take the plunge yet. I still don't know if it works!
