Seatbelts are exempt. Is the steel used to make reinforcements to the floor for seatbelt mounts included or exempt?
What about seat back braces? Are they needed, or just a good idea? Exempt or not?
Lastly, i have lost the factory battery hold down for tge miata. If i make another, and mimic the factory, will that pass tech? Or is there a different spec to build to since its fabricated, not factory?
The way the rules read now, I would put safety reinforcements and seat braces into the same budget category as a roll bar or cage. If you build a car that needs it, it goes in the budget. I think belts are exempt because they have expiration dates.
If you had the original hold down and replace it with an identical factory one, I think it should be exempt. Same goes for breaking good parts on accident. It was already in the budget since it came with the car. If you fab a new one though, I think it goes in the budget. But perhaps you could FMV recoup the original that you lost.
But I am not a judge
Sorry, but unless the rules say that something is required and/or exempt, it is not required and/or exempt. Steel goes in the budget. Seat braces go in the budget.
That was what i thought. Wanted to confirm before putting it in the budget though.
Thanks y'all.

Question:
This is a question that keeps coming up in my mind and maybe it's been changed, but I haven't found anything new on it, so here goes.
Why is it that, if i choose to purchase a car, I need to include hauling costs? I ask this question because I look at purchasing say a transmission, or a battery, or even the beer I'm drinking while building that car as having a transportation cost associated to it. The only difference is that they're just a lot smaller (ie: cheaper) to transport!
If this has been beaten to death, or addressed, my apologies for bringing this up again! I just wanted to know what the hive decided.
In reply to 2GRX7 :
Per the rules:
'Costs to pick up your car(s) from the seller are exempt.'
I'm always amazed at how people assume rules but don't read them. I read them several times a year in case I was misinterpreting them or missed something.

Ah, do you feel better now, Stampie, LOL?!! Yup, assumed the rules hadn't changed much, and I'm not looking to search through website for rules and then read through said rules as time is short for me.
HA, kinda wondering why new rules aren't at the top of this section as a "sticky", but something tells me you already know the answer and are DYING to P.A. me!
Just made them a sticky. And if you ever need to find them directly, they're located at 2000challenge.com/rules
Can't wait to see everybody at the event!

Sorry didn't mean it as personal to you. Just an observation as frequently people say similar. I'm not sure what PAing you means but if it's giving you a Pale Ale then sure. Remind me and I'll add some Sierra Nevada to the Challenge cooler with your name on it.

When does registration open? My lucky number is 2.... so I need to register ASAP.
How about a story on cars that were excluded or had issues with "Rules Interpretation".... You could have a "Spirit of Smokey" award!
