Nah. It's a good thing- created some opportunity, and focus on family stuff.
I'll be there.

Cool. We can be teammates again. (I'm not bringing a car either)
Today is gonna be work on the Bolus & Snopes C4/watch Nascar at the Glen. To that end I moved a TV to the garrage and drove to the c store for a beer run in the C4 WITHOUT THE HOOD/FRONT END PLASTIC. ran great and only a few side glances from all the church crowd.
Weird thing...the engine "knock" has become intermittent...comes and goes Pete Gossett stopped by yesterday and can't seem to isolate even with stethoscope. Sounds high up in engine....Definitely not bottom end. Who knows?
In reply to Ovid_and_Flem:
I had a serpentine belt tensioner create an intermittent knock once. Swore ut sounded like #1 rod. Took off the belt, noise went away. Try it, what do you have to lose?
In reply to Dusterbd13:
Great idea. We used a single serpentine belt but we've removed the ac and smog pump and converted to regular flow water pump...the 89 l98 runs a reverse flow. So we don't have idler pulley any more. Fabbed bracket on alternator for adjustment. You may be on to something. Especially since it seems intermittent.
In reply to Dusterbd13:
With the stethoscope it sounded loudest on the front valve cover flange on both sides, but otherwise sounded equally loud on the heads, the top of the block, oil pump cover, and timing cover. I could barely hear it in the intake though. I'd be surprised if it's a pulley - it was the same volume front-to-rear on both sides of the engine.
Duster/pete...appreciate the interweb AND in person attempts to solve this riddle.
After tearing stuff apart as much as we could without yanking the engine definite wrist pin going on #1 and likely #3.
So...we watched WG, drank a beer, cooked burgers and planned to yank engine and trans next weekend and fix both right.
Gonna use the week to tackle non engine/tranny work....fuel cell, rewiring, further weight reduction and cosmetics before tearing engine apart.

I'm planning on replacing them with narrower tires before the event. 335 is too wide for a 10.5" wheel.

I have a full set of four 2" wide spacers in your size that I could send you. Would that solve the problem of inside rubbing? Would that allow you to go even wider?
In reply to John Welsh :
Only way to go wider is a wide 5 setup with circle track tires. I have spacers I just don't want to pay for extended wheel studs.
Just need to finish the exhaust like this.
Do the 335s!
Personally, our super aggressive and over the top challenge build will not make it for this year, which means the Saab can come back after brewing for a year as my daily.
I have some big plans to unveil shortly!
What I have for you is spacer adapters so they have a second set of 5x114 bolts as well and at the proper stud length. They are what I used on the BRE van.
I too have come to terms to with the fact the Rice Rod probably won't be ready. If I can at least get it running/limping/rolling, I will tow it down and see what happens. I'd be DQ'd on budget anyway.
However, my best friend and $2016 teammate just picked up a V8 Blazer, so you'll see us there!
So....is anyone's car going to be ready lol?
We are pulling the Justang out of mothballs for our GRM interview tomorrow night.....still haven't had time to touch it since the event. Sheesh.
In reply to Circuit_Motorsports:
Yes but I loosely define ready as showing up with a running car. Still could change cars at this point.

Maybe
Although I fully intend to bring something there, even if the S10 isn't ready.

I could technically bring the Riv as it sits right now, but I'd like to limit myself to getting mildly spanked across the board after upgrades vs. the all-out near-death beating I'd get with it in stock form.
