Challenge packing list

Trying to figure out what all we need to bring. Having some internal debate about it. I dont want to drive the whole way to florida, nred a tool i didnt bring, and fail miserably. But i also have limited space with the oprn trailer and 3 guys in a mega cab ram shortbed.

My thoughts:

Air compressor 

Welder

Standard hand tools i take to the junkyard

Jack and stands

Tent

Chairs

Cooler

Tire pressure gauge, tire pyrometer, multimeter, and torque wrench like i take to the autocross.

Timing light

Spare fuel pump, slicks, 20 gallons race gas, oil, gear oil, coolant, belts and hoses

This is very much pared down from where i started.  Now that im bringing 1/2 a miata as well, space is tighter. 

What am i missing? What should i leave out?

That's wassaay more than you need!

It's a community. No one is gonna let you fail miserably (unless you want to!)

Just bring beer. The rest will already be there, and readily loaned. 

(I'd particularly leave behind the welder and the compressor). 

I also wouldn't bring race gas. You can buy it at the track. 

Ok. So gas is available, but a empy 5 gallon can to put it in would be a good idea, right? Trailer has a ravk for them.

Im assuming that there will be an air compressor/fab tools there?

I just dont want to be "that guy ".

You can drive up to the fuel pumps. 

I alwats bring more stuff than I need to, but there really is no reason. If you ask for help, whatever you need will appear. Seriously. 

Its a better event if you don't try to be a lone wolf. 

Your initial reaction might be, "we're bringing an AMC Spirit." Being an odd/rare choice you might think you need to bring everything possible.  In a real world that may be true but in the GRM world you will be one of at least two AMC Spirits at the event.   

i have 2 jacks in the trailer if you don't have room for one.  

Somebody will have a welder there.  I’d only suggest bringing one if you are pretty certain you’ll need to use it.  Air compressor is iffier, but there’s not a lot of spots with power at the track, so unless you bring a generator, too, might as well leave it at home.

Of course, since there’s an autocross there, you should bring a dorky large brimmed hat.

Miller is a sponsor. The winner gets a welder. There is always a welder there. 

(And the last 2 years the prize was "slightly used" when awarded at the banquet)

so re: Air Compressor

I might suggest taking one of those smaller "car power" tire pressure pumps (unless that's already part of your autoX kits?).

jah29 showed me the errors of my way in not having one at OneLap this year.  And, since competition is across time/temperature/etc... you'll probably be fiddling around with pressures... and it's a lot easier to do that "at the pits"

Im praying for no needs if any tools past tire pressure gauge.  Especially not needing fab tools.

Pat: thanks. Hopefully i can fit the little aluminium jack and a pair of stands. 

Big floppy hat and shade are required due to medication side effects. 

Ill bring the little buzz box compressor i take to autocross. 

Im also understanding that there are guys that will have whatever i forget or dont have room for, unlike a normal  autocross here locally.  Like last time i forgot the torx bits. 

This is taking a load off my mind. Thanks guys. I can overthink a wet dream, let alsone a bucket list experience. 

I'm bringing a small 3 gal 125 psi electric compressor you're welcome to use if need arises.  I left it plugged in at pavillion last year for anyone to use for inflating tires/tanks.

Coming off the back of the concession stand building is a proper air hose. The hose is properly long enough so you can drive your car to the building and adjust the air in your tires (bring your own gauge). This is also conveniently located near the start of the autox. 

This is a very task specific concern, but since I don't know what a fully dressed Miata motor weighs, do we have some way to pick it up and put it in the back of.....say.....a Silverado?

Its gotta be lighter than a dressed, iron headed sbc. Brother Dallas and i carried one of those 10 yards and put it in the bed of my truck.

For heavy lifting, look to the college teams. They usually bring a pretty big crew. Speaking of college teams, another inside tip is if you need a special tool or etc, ask the college teams. They notoriously typically bring a 30ft, school owned trailer, towed by a school owned dually and the trailer is chock filled with school owned tools, etc. 

How much for race gas by you 10-12 gal at the track last year.
