I damn near burned my hand off once and they kept shooting me up with morphine or some derivative without telling me what it was. My hand still hurt and I got the morphine pukes to go with it, so make them go easy on that stuff.

Quoted for absolute truth. With the morphine iv I was talking to the furniture. At one point I thought Grimace from McDonalds was there. Two days later I hadn't gone and wasn't going to until I could do it myself. Thanksgiving night Nurse Ratchet sent two goons in to throw me over the bed and flush everything out. I was still in another world and started screaming rape. My inlaws came running back to see things they still can't unsee and I still can't enjoy a thanksgiving dinner.

The ribs don't hurt as much if you hug a pillow tight to your chest when you laugh. Or cough, or shout obscenities at the idiot in the next bed when he starts smoking in the room.

Damn John, that really sucks. We're all really glad you made it through the accident though. Mend up and start thinking about what really nice toy Mr.Red-Light-Runner is going to buy you as compensation.

I once drove past a fatal as a result of red light running - I will never forget it. One of those 90's small blazers hit a Crown Vic, square, passenger door was pushed to the middle of the car, passenger was still there (must've been belted in...) as traffic drove by.

Thank God himself you had it caged and are still with us!

I hated morphine the one time I was administered it. I still hurt and yes it locked me up tight. Maybe because it was just a one shot dose.

I hope you recover fully and quickly.

Been almost a week now, how is he feeling? Family need any help with yardwork, car maintenance etc? I'm only 2.5 hours out, and could use an excuse to get down to our place in zephyrhills before all the snowbirds clog the roads up.

10 days out and I am now at rehab hospital. Spent 8 days at trauma hospital in ER/ICU/trauma ward before coming here Wednesday. Today was a great day of PT/OT and I'm almost doing wheelchair transfers solo with only one good leg/arm (not as easy as it sounds). Great support group of friends and family and especially my wife who has a been a rock through this. She sprinted (ran) from our house to the wreck scene and saw me just before I was helicoptered out. She then ran back to house and made it to the hospital only 10 minutes later than I did! Fast woman!

I've got a splint on my left wrist, full left leg immobilizer and clam shell back brace. Wrist and leg are 6-8 weeks until I can begin weight bearing and targeted therapy. Back is much longer at 3 months. I'll probably be here another 7-10 days before going home. Still a long road ahead but I see a light at the end of the tunnel and plan to be walking by New Years Day.

I'll write more soon and also plan to eventually start a thread as to how this accident has changed how I view my road legal "race" cars and how I plan to change my behaviors.

Here is a pict of the car. I was turning left on a 6 lane wide road (45 mph spd limit) at a green turn arrow. I was the second car to make the turn and the car that hit me (71yo woman) never even touched the brakes even though I was the SECOND car through the intersection. I am a VERY aware driver but when was the last time you checked oncoming traffic at a turn signal when you were second car in line? I never saw her coming as I was looking through the turn for my exit. Brief flash and BOOM!
