We're going to drive the car to Gainesville and switch tires once we get to the track. Is there a place I can store the street tires and a basic tool kit/spare parts? Also what do I need for safety besides a helmet? Long pants, socks, and closed toe shoes?
Though the event is open to spectators, there really are no spectators at the event. It really is sort of a closed event where everyone there is in the GRM family.
I have had no problem leaving "valuables" out in the open for the entire event. If you are less comfortable with just leaving them out there, teams will have street cars or truck cabs there as well. I am sure just asking will get you a trunk or an interior to lock up some valuables.
Though there are no gates, I would really say that no one just happens to wander into the place. The track is pretty far from populated areas and then set very far off the main road.
Helmet required for Autox but there will also be loaner helmets there. Drags do not require a helmet (for slower cars) but long pants and shoes are required.

Out in the open has always been fine in the past- I have never heard of theft at the Challenge.
Track requires long pants and closed toe shoes.
I was more worried about just having a place to put them. Don't think anyone would want them with my crappy spray bomb job.

I am bringing a popup tent, a cooler, and some chairs. You can stash your stuff there with mine.
Damn your getting pretty fancy. I'd bring my tent but not sure I'd be able to fit it in the Miata.

Remember I am driving a 4 door luxury sport sedan... I have plenty of space for extra crap.
Last year I brought a welder, which we actually used on Thursday night and at the track on Friday, in addition to about a ton of other crap.
Last year I brought my truck though...
I have a friend that'd give his left nut for your FJ. In fact if you'd like a collection of them I can try and get you with a guy that has a bunch but he's really flaky.
you can toss the junk in my enclosed trailer if you are concerned about it. you are also welcome to use my jack so you don't need to carry one in your mia - uh - art car. i'm not bringing a welder or anything like that but will be bringing a couple full air tanks, basic hand tools, self drilling screws and a bunch of zipties. if a weld breaks i can fix it with zipties.
related event question that i was just going to post about- is it a leave car in trailer at track friday night kind of deal or is it a "drags over GTFO and take your trailer back to your hotel with you" deal?
You are welcome to leave trailer at track Friday to Saturday.
I left my ticking/knocking car there overnight last year.
There is also a free air hose at the event and it is convenient enough to stop and adjust pressures between runs. Located on the side wall of the concession stand.
