Ya'll Know I'm pretty darn easy on being Cheapo, I do not see Zip Ties as Safe. Cut a strip of metal that will go over the battery + an inch or 2 on each side and Bolt it down, I do know the large Ties are very strong, but no , imo .
We zip tied the whole left side of our Late model on after we got hit in warm ups one night and won, But NO.
I believe NHRA requires a box and Holders. you best look that up.
In reply to GTXVette :
I'm not relocating the battery- just using a smaller one in the stock location, so I shouldn't need a box for it- I just know that I need to have it secured and was trying to figure out the best way to do it. There's a decent chance I'm going to fab up a custom tray for the smaller battery so I've got more room for IC pipe routing, so I'll just build provisions into it to hold the battery down.
In reply to Ashyukun :
NHRA battery hold downs require a metal strap and/or bolts of at least 3/8 inch. Plastic/elastic straps are specifically EXCLUDED.

Does each line on the budget sheet need to be one individual part? Or should multiple part orders be a line and either list all the parts in the 'Item' field or just refer to the receipt?
For orders of multiple parts, how should the shipping costs be handled on the budget sheet? Proportional to the cost of the item ( {cost of item/total cost of order} * shipping cost )? Divided equally between all of the items in the order ( Shipping cost / # of items in order )? Asking because there were items in several orders that I won't end up using.
Thanks!
I'm not sure if this is the approved way, but if multiple parts were in an order, I put it all on one line. In instances where I used some stuff from an order, but didn't use others, I distributed shipping costs and any discounts (yay Rock auto 5% coupon) based on the price of the items.
Yep, this is acceptable.
Need help to get my students to Florida!!!
I teach automotive classes at the high school level in Wendell, North Carolina. We have put together a 1985 corolla with a supercharged engine that we pulled from a completely rusted out MR2 SC. It's been a crazy adventure and we are almost ready for next week. I wanted to wait until it was running and driving before I started asking for funds, and now I need help finding the last bit of funding for my students transportation, their hotel rooms, and their meals (only for them). I started a gofundme page a few weeks ago and secured $1150 of our $1900 goal.... Tom gave me permission to post it here, so please read the gofundme link and please donate if you can, any bit will be appreciated. Thank you, and seeya there

DEFINITELY START A NEW THREAD SO FOLKS WILL SEE IT.
I'VE SHARED THE GOFUNDME ON FACEBOOK WITH ALL MY RACING FRIENDS SO HOPEFULLY THEY'LL PONY UP.
I just donated. They look healthy. Make them bring tents and sleep in the woods behind hotel.
Rally: Our team will help however we can. Were from the Charlotte area.
Unfortunately, most of us are single income with kids, so financially we cant do much.
Other than money, what do you guys need?
Were leaving at about 8 am Wednesday from Indian trail if you wanna cobvoy with us.
Two questions, completely different topics.
1. The 'Fail Bird' (as I have eloquently named it) has developed the typical F-Body steering wheel play, where unless the the tilt is locked at the bottom the wheel rocks a little to 7:30. How terrible is that going to be when tech comes around?
2. Is grilling at the track something that is charcoal or propane only? And are the (as mentioned in the FAQ) "GRM staff" Hot Dog or Hamburger people?
Ovid_and_Flem said:In reply to FIMS :
1. When tech comes around lock wheel at bottom.
2. Hamburger or hot dog? Yes.
So, This being in the truck would be fine?
My car did not come with a timing cover. I purchased one so I could set the timing.
If the timing cover stays on the car does it have to count towards budget? It is arguably not doing anything as it sits. If it does count, I may just take it off. I only takes about 5 minutes. Then it works as a tool.
If it does count towards budget. I bought it as a outer and inner package, but only needed the outer.
Can I divide the cost by 2 and add just the outer?
Two more questions. Build Book related.
1. Where is the "Vehicle Information Form"?
2. The first page with "A single, large photo of the car (the more recent, the better)." Can there be text on the page too? Or strictly just the picture? I was going to put the team name, make model of the car, and the car's nickname on there unless that's an issue.

Thank you, we are leaving Thursday early mostly to avoid another hotel day... this has been an adventure. Getting yourself ready is one thing, getting others on board is very different. Thank you

I am new to posting here.. I have no idea where to start a new thread.. if it was a Toyota forum, I'd be more knowledgeable, lol

I converted it to Word so I can type it up. You don't want my handwriting. I'll upload the Word document to my site and post a link if anyone else want it.

Tom, how particular are you about this page in the build book?
I typed it up in word and was considering taking some of the instructional text out to make room for more words. All the information would be there, I am just trying to put ALL the paperwork into one word doc that I can print out and I'll also make it into a PDF available to download from my website.

If the data logging is not a performance advantage, there there is no reason to do it.
A brick is a performance disadvantage. A computer logging data is not.
Exactly. Plus, I need to be able to publish a photo of the car running the autocross and honestly say "this is a $2017 car." A laptop in the passenger seat makes that statement untrue.
Late to the dance. If the lap top is in the car on a run, the time slip won't be turned in. You will receive a time slip for a pass made without the lap top.
Tom,
Please respond to this previously posted statement. "If the lap top is in the car on a run, the time slip won't be turned in. You will receive a time slip for a pass made without the lap top." Is that acceptable?
Andrew:
I'm pretty sure Tom has already answered your question. On page 21 at 4:41, Tom made this post:
Tom Suddard said:Nope. Dongles are totally a fair loophole. But by the time you figure out a wireless link that will work on the autocross course, you’re going to wish you’d just bought a $25 computer.
Yes, that is a challenge.
Why not just make all computers free? Because that would effectively make all aftermarket ECUs free, because any modern laptop can run an engine if you’re talented enough. If the laptop is in the car on track, it’s in budget.
He said if the laptop is in the car on track, its in the budget.
So no, it doesn't look like that is acceptable. It's not a question of whether the laptop is actually in the car during an "official" run. It's whether you are using it to capture data on track for performance improvements.
Its much too close to how a mega squirt is used.
You'll need to log in to post.
