I just swapped the harnesses from my 911 into my challenge car. I guess it has been a while since I have been to the track and wanted to check on a few items. I have never been down a drag strip and never competed in an autocross but I have had my share of track time (DE).

The Challenge rules say to follow the NHRA rule book. I am not a member and do not have access to the rule book. I was unable to find a copy online related to safety.

The answers may determine if I have to express deliver some new safety equipment. Here are my questions.

  1. Can an expired harness (5pt) be used in the Challenge?
  2. Is an SA05 or later helmet required for the challenge?
  3. I assume typical attire for the track (long sleeves long pants of cotton) are required as a minimum.
  4. If a harness is used, do the shoulder straps need to go through seat slots??
  5. If a harness is free from the cost, what about a race seat? These are usually used as a set.
  6. Are there any noise (db) restrictions?

7 Can I run a harness with a stock seat? (an example, PCA not longer allows this unless the seat has harness holes)

Thanks in advance.

I am so looking forward to the event. Not the tow from TX but the event for sure.

1) yes 2) m helmets ok...loaners available 3) typically long pants, closed toe shoes. Short sleeve shirts ok 4) no 5) seats count 6) no, but mufflers must be adequate...ie, we have to listen to it all weekend, so let's be reasonable. Technically there is a 100db max for autocross, but I am not bringing a db meter
