amg, the car I have, that i am working toward being able to drive again, is a Boxster. But a 5-speed. Hopefully by summer, I'll be able to do it. Otherwise, I'm leaning toward a C4 Vette, because I don't want to hate the car, once I can shift for myself again.

E36 M3 with the auto. As a bonus, they're usually cheaper than a comparable manual.

I drove an Sc400 & it reminded me of a Thunderbird. I came away feeling like I had just driven Japan's answer to the 1992 Ford Thunderbird.

I wish I could find a decent 928 in my price range. A 928 could tick all the boxes for now.

How about an automatic Supra? They aren't horrible. You could find a Mk III turbo for cheap. I would say Mk IV, but there is generally a ricer tax and you could get a nice C5 Vette for what some people are asking.

Auto RX8s are cheap, generally well-maintained and gently driven, and can be up and downshifted on the steering wheel with one hand. One might be worth investigating.

WS6. Wasn't the auto actually faster than the manual trans at the time?

How about something with paddles?

Mustang. My answer is always Mustang, because something is broken in the Grassroots/Miata portion of my brain.

I'd love a PDK Cayman S, but I can't afford one &if I could, I wouldn't be able to operate the left paddle...yet

Not to sound like a broken record, but I second (third?) the idea of waiting. I had a stroke last april and lost the use of my right hand, and my cars (1988 M5 and 2001 corolla) are both manual trans. I lost it when I thought Id never drive a manual again. I was driving them again before the end of summer. The brain is weird. Doctors still havent figured it out (and I worked with some of the best.). Heres what I have figured out on my own. Recovering from my stroke accelerated greatly when I got over being depressed and put my whole self into recovery. I blew the physical therapist away with the rapidity. Anyway. Stressing my brain for short periods trying to make the hand work, working my hand with various exercises to frustration (which happened a LOT at first). Pushing pushing pushing. If you're going to be stuck driving an auto, make your body force you to. Never give up. I tend to get worked up about this issue, sorry if I got a bit excited.

Thanks Gunner, that's my approach, too. I can drive a manual, it's just not pretty because, for now, I shift with the only hand I can steer with. That said, my physical therapist is pretty shocked at how quickly I got walking again. The hand is just seemingly taking forever. At this point, I can grab & pull but I still cannot push or release with my left hand.

The bigger the engine the less an automatic sucks ... generally. I got with something V8 powered perhaps. Corvettes are easy to find in auto ...

Have you thought of a brodie/necker/suicide knob?

Veering off topic a bit have you tried seeing an accupuncturist? I never believed it did anything until I watched it but it did wonders for my wife. Ofcourse check with you doctor first because depeding on the type/dose of meds you are on poking extra holes can be a problem.

Crazy idea: I have a rust free 90 Jetta that I bought as a parts car for my 91. But I couldn't bring myself to cut it up because it's way too solid & straight. What if I swap in a VR6/automatic from a Passat? Would the result suck? I LOVE A2 volkswagens & I think I own the only two rust free ones in the northeast. My 91 is a freaking jewel its so nice that I converted it from automatic to manual about a year ago. I LOVE that car but I'm unable to drive it now, so with heavy heart I intend to list it on eBay next week
