Any ideas for a cheap water repellent spray for a car cover? I live in the PNW, where the constant moisture and shade are turning my car cover green, which is a PITA to clean. I looked at West Marine's site but their offerings are spendy. I thought about NuFinish but it'd be a bitch to apply.

Scotch Guard from the shoe and/or camping section of your favorite store?

I was thinking something cheaper than Scotchgard. The local camping store has something but it's almost $20 a bottle.

It would be messy to apply... but Vaseline?

Seriously..

Problem with an applied water repellent is it will form a water-impermeable barrier, meaning your car cover won't breathe. So after it suffocates, moisture will build up on the inside, 'cause, ya know, it's humid up in the Pacific Northwest. And that moisture will grow mold. On your paint.
