I just took a really nice 1999 Saab 9-3 convertible in on trade, and I'm pretty sure it needs a turbo. What's the cheapest, grassroots solution? I thought of just pinching off the oil feed tube to the turbo until the turbo seizes. That would clear up the smoke. Although that's technically the cheapest way of dealing with it, I want to actually fix the problem. Suggestions?

Take it off, take it to your nearest diesel shop, have them rebuild it for $100. Strap that berkeleyer back on.

Roll.

I had no idea it was that cheap to rebuild a turbo. TODAY I LEARNED SOMETHING!

The diesel shop is the best idea, but there are also enough Saab Nuts out there that you can find a rebuilt one for cheap.

My old boss bought a couple for his '93 Saab 9000.

That's the lower end, but yeah unless it's got mangled wheels or something, it's way cheaper than most people think.
