Any recommendations? Right now, I'm looking between Federal 595RS-Pros (not the RS-RRs) and the Nankang NS-2R's. I know they probably won't beat the Advan/RE71Rs, but I'm just looking for good grip on the cheap to practice.

I am using yoko advance a08r. $150 a tire

Hankook rs4.

Or, find a local lemons or champcar team and get their takeoffs.

Some people think the Nexen Surg4 or whatever is pretty good. Not sure the price but I bet they’re cheaper than the top tier tires.

Falken Azenis Rt615k+ always got the sweet spot of performance per dollar for learning autocross on. They communicate well when you mess up without biting you in the ass too.

The k+ is many years old at this point.  I would try one of the newer tires.

I'd get the rs4 because they last so long.  They may be just a little more expensive, but they easily make up for it with longevity

Also the k+ falkens are discontinued.  Falken has a new tire coming out this year.

If you can get heat in them, the RS-4 will wear well with proper tire rotations and camber. But they're a bit slower and not that much cheaper than stones.

Autox is going to be hard on tires no matter what. I recommend the Stones because they can be flipped and they're generally the most affordable of the fastest 200TW trio. BFG, RE71R and Yoko.

What size?  I have a set of lightly worn but getting older RE-71s for 1/2 of new if you want them.

NS-2R is the current budget hotness. Get them shaved

I don't think adding cost to a tire to shave it and cut the life down at the same time makes sense in the context of this thread...
