I forgot about the 500. I do not like the looks of that one either. It looks too cartoonish to me. I think my brother had a Penny Racer back in the day that looked like those.
I wouldn't make the claim that the Fiesta or the Mazda 2 are really good looking cars. I just like them both way more than the Sonic. I find the styling of this one to be atrocious.
Meh. I just think the 2, Fiesta and Sonic look all the same with slightly different faces.
Elantra is a class bigger and weighs in at 2660, 148hp, and has a very good interior size
for the money, a base MINI seems like a better car. The Sonic looks like a reskinned Aveo to me. Yes it assembled here, that is good, I wonder what the US parts content will be and who did the design?
does it come with a button that makes it start spinning and going forward at a frantic pace, and can it be powered totally with gold rings?

I don't think the two cars are even close to being in the same price range. And wherever the design was done and whatever the US content, I'm pretty sure it's more than the MINI.
I realize that the MINI's US parts content is tiny at best, I was wondering about the Sonic's. One of the links mentioned a loaded up Sonic at close to 19k, isn't that around a base MINI? Sonic still looks like another boring 4 door box to me.

And that's the trouble. As long as there's no 2 door hatch, it'll be a bit player.

I, like you, really prefer 2 door hatches. It won't help, but look at my post titled "Now THIS I like"
we asked around at SEMA looking for vehicles to develop and race...... hopefully we'll be able to answer a few Sonic question soon.
Since it's turbocharged I wonder what the boosting potential is there. Every turbo car that's been released lately has had the ability to turn up the boost and add instant HP. This makes 140 hp a starting point.
Pricey. I did the "build it" feature on GM Canada, and it came to just a tick over $22000. I am strangely attracted to it, however.
I much prefer the look of the Sonic to that of the Fiesta/M2, 500, etc. But what bothers me, so far as I have tried; is the Canadian "Build it" feature requires the LTZ model to get the 1.4, it is not an option on the LT.
The US "Build it" had the 1.4 as an option on the LT.
Grrrr.
