Stock firewall, it actually fit really well.

....Interesting. How did you mate the trans to the rearend? The BMW trans doesn't have a way to use a slip spline that I can figure out.
BMW trans, bmw engine, mazda rear end. Biggest issue was speed signal comes from diff on the 325i, no provision for that on rx7.
Front of drive shaft was bmw. Rear was from rx7.
In reply to pimpm3 :
That's what I'm not getting, how did you accomodate driveshaft plunge? Two piece driveshaft with a slip in the middle?
I HAVE MANY QUESTIONS.
I remember it had the guibo, I can't remember exactly how I did the rear of it specifically. I really wish I had done a build thread for that thing.
It wasn't an issue other than the speed signal I mentioned earlier.
Couple dumb ideas I've had:
1. Convert Auto FWD 90s V6 Buick to a Manual RWD V8 turbo.
2. Swap 4cyl Honda motor into F150 or Silverado just to see if it would improve MPG any and see how much it would negatively affect performance.
3. Mid-engine van or minivan just because.

I did a v8 rwd swap to a fwd grand prix with an mn12 thunderbird independent rear suspension and a 5.3. Swapped knuckles side to side to move steering away from the firewall.
How about a six cylinder 2-stroke outboard motor in a Swift/Metro with the expansion chambers rising from the hood like a church pipe organ?

Those engines are TINY, aren't they?
I'm not a fan of through-hood exhausts but I always thought one of those engines would be neat in a motorcycle.

I'm gonna say Jeep.
One of my more whackjob ideas is to get a Wrangler, throw away the frame that is probably rusted out anyway, and build a new unibodied frame for it out of 2x3s. Use Subaru strut suspension front and rear, with R180 diffs. Keep the Jeep six. Low like a car, but with the sightlines of a Jeep. Confuse the hell out of people at rallycrosses.
If you used '05-07 STI parts you could even keep the Jeep wheels! (Well, with some brake fiddlyness)

Honestly, I just want to V12 all the things.
You've been reading too many of Frenchy's posts.
No, he's kind of got a point, but I'd want to start with the whatever the heck the name is Toyota V12 from a Century. The V12 that replaced the mini-Hemi in the 1990s. It looks small-ish and light-ish and BMW V12s are simply too common. Might be based on some other inline six like the 1G engine. (Toyota made a lot of different inline sixes!)
That Mercedes 190e with the 1gz v12 and a turbo is what made me love v12 swaps
The guy that lives a couple doors over from me has a Chrysler Airflow body on a Mercedes 190 chassis....

Tidied that up for you, just a little.

What transmission? How would you get power to the front wheels?

Jeep engine and trans, and another R180 diff up front. I'm gonna assume that there are some parts bin shenanigans to put long/short axles from a transverse application on the Subaru CVs.
If the Jeep's transfer case hangs too low after removing the frame, then bin the Jeep drivetrain and go for an all wheel drive RB25DET setup, which can still be found on eBay from importers complete engine/trans/front diff/wiring/ECU for $2500ish, sometimes less. Way cheaper than anything with the Godzilla tax.
J35 into my '87 Pontiac GTA
Or a K24
Or a 2JZ
Or a 4g63
I've spent a lot of time thinking about putting dumb engines into that car.

Kinda. The original Mark 75 "Dockbuster" was pretty small. The series that started with the Merc 1000 "Tower of Power" was roughly the size of a 4-cyl carb'd engine. They've got a new I6 engine series I don't know anything about other than it's in the 400HP range.
Probably not a good idea to have the exhaust point out of the hood with these anyways. They didn't burn cleanly and with how much oil to gas they require you'd go through a lot of windshield washer fluid.
Deuce and a half with rearmost axle removed, then bobbed, then lowered.
Probably a 7.3L powerstroke for the engine
I've considered some crazy E36 M3. Done some crazy E36 M3.
At the same time, I owned an 87 Cutlass Salon with a smoky 307 as well as a Ford 302. I gave serious consideration to making a five-oh Cutlass.
When I lived in L.A. I had my 96 Impala SS and a Viper T56. I was weighing the cost of converting the T56 to GM spec versus just buying a Viper V10 and dropping it in the SS. I went as far as having multiple phone conversations with the CARB referee about it and had all the ducks in a row, but never did it.
My 66 Bonneville has already had some crazy stuff done. Front spindles and brakes from a 3/4 ton 8-lug chevy truck. Rear axle is a 14 bolt full floater. For a long time it had a Caddy 500/TH400 with a GVOD. In the long run it's getting a Duramax/4L80E or 6L90
I had a grocery-getter 83 S10. Single cab, short bed, rubber floors, vinyl seats, manual steering, no radio. It had the 185mm tires on 14" wheels. With no other mods, it got an LS1/T56 and race bullets. Getting sideways in a cloud of tire smoke at 60 mph on the highway was easy.

I think once you put subaru suspension on a jeep and lower it, the front diff would basically occupy the area where the engine is.
Otherwise I'm 100% with you, but the RB swap would be better. Or really, RB AWD trans, SR20 motor.
