I suppose I should introduce myself. I'm Matt, your new summer intern. I wanted to start my blog off right; so I chose to ask all of you, "what should my next car be?" Check out my blog post...

In no way does your question expose that you are new here.
Welcome.
Thanks :)
I've been around for a little while under the name "LeigerReign" but changed it when I started working for the magazine. I figured "Matt_Smith" was a tad more professional than my grade school gamer tag.

F-150 with a 300 6 cyl.
Pretty good gas mileage for a full size, great for hauling parts. A bench seat can seat four (if they like each other). And you can make beer money helping classmates move their stuff.

Or just bump it up to a 302 and waste a little more gas and have a little more power. Help your friends drag their broken ass cars off the highway like me.

From one college kid to another:
Miata! (That is what I did)
E30 (did that for a while too)
E36 (probably easier to get at your price point nowadays)
I keep coming back to the Civic and CRX idea's even though I don't like FWD. I also keep coming back to an El Camino, Subaru Brat, or VW rabbit pickup. I think that next year when I graduate, I will need to pick up a pickup, minivan, van, or SUV of some sort. So I'll second the pickup idea.
1st gen RX-7. I have one and since we picked up that Mustang I am sure Debbie would love for it to be gone.
My college car was a bicycle. Then it was a free Ford Aspire...
Take what you can get!

Right, Sarcasm is great.
How about something off the wall. Something not flying around your new employer.

Well, if you want a cool DD with the ability to tow, I vote you find a vintage truck you like and throw a diesel motor in it. I am partial to fj60 r wagoneers.

Summer Intern? when we will hear the hazing stories?
What would GRM hazing be? Make the kid drive an automatic 4 cylinder beige 1995 Camry?

Bahahahahahahahaha.
I could imagine then strapping me into a Viper ACR-X with a "valet" mode of 5mph turned on and telling me to go "test" it. Those sadists would think of something like that :P

No sending him trekking across the county to work on challenge cars for free. publishing pictures of him and a transvestite hooker. wouldn't mom be proud? make him count the mold flash on all the challenge cars tires. get him under one of the project cars let the jack down and leave. toss out idea's. He's an intern they make more.
Wow. I'm not even mad. That's impressive.
cayenne pepper in the driving suit on a 140 degree track temp day
We made him install stereo components in the Edsel, actually. And before that, he had to take an 8 hour roadtrip with my dad!

Yikes. Wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
I don't have any useful ideas right now, but i require more info on that VR4. That is a big nasty intercooler, my friend.

Details will be up soon. Some pretty cool things happening soon (cage, rebuilding the engine, updating the fuel system, tubular subframes, etc...)

it's got real bits of panther so you know its good.
First off, welcome! If you want to keep it in the family, you could also go the route I did. 3kgt + Galant VR-4 for a DD. Unfortunately you're going to have to wait for a heck of a bargain or buy a real hard luck case if $1000 is your budget cap.

I LOVE me some Galant VR-4, but I just can't find one for the right price.

That's not hazing. Send him to drive it over to Crystal River to get some of Karl & Marie's tacos!
