Woodstock, so a bit of a drive for you. Figure most people saw CASCAR and figured a Typo!
Man, I wish I had the problem of having a few chopped '48 Merc bodies and CASCAR road course chassis just lying around.
Think he'll trade one for some old brake rotors and fluids that need to go to the fire hall? I might even be able to throw in a cracked Civic tail light.
This is gonna be sweet.
It's a cool little shop that does a bunch of neat projects for fun. Seems they accidentally bought a complete 4 car CASCAR operation right down to the last nut and bolt. TONS of neat stuff that they have slowly been turning into cash. But they needed to do something with the spare chassis. So my friend who does the wrenching suggested this idea since they happened to have a 48 Merc just sitting around and they thought it sounded like fun, so off he goes.
I like the tool cart that came with the deal, you can see it in this pic. Even came with a golf cart to tow it around.
There is also an original unchopped 48 Merc in the shop; did not know that they still existed in un-chopped format
i see that the front frame section is what they consider to be "stock" frame rails... this is the fate of most of the 70's Camaro front subframes that still exist, and one company even went so far as to reproduce the front 4 feet of the 68-72 Chevelle frames just so that race cars would have "stock" frame rails to build off of to satisfy outdated rules packages.
with all that said, why didn't they just build a chassis from the ground up out of some steel tubing? probably less work with a better finished product than what they are doing..
To Novaderrick:
The goal was to build a car with scrap laying around the shop. The stock car chassis provides a ready mounted rear end and front suspension. The race trailer also came with about 7 engines, so one of those gets to come along for the ride.
This is snot going to be the ideal street car, but it should be interesting.
NOHOME? where could i see what they are selling off?
when i retired from building cars i sold all my specialty tooling/equiptment & now it seems like i am back into fabbing/set-up type work
