I'm actually surprised that companies don't sell pre-production sports cars to amateur racers like us for a few grand. They are safe enough to be tested and the companies could get a few extra bucks. Actually, it's probably the damn executives.

They probably don't want racers to have a cheap version of their expensive sports cars.

Because it's just not worth it from the company's perspective. The hassle of the sale doesn't justify "a few grand". Now, if you do a good enough job of selling the idea to someone, then you can make it happen. There are a number of examples in this thread. But you'll have to do the work, not wait for something to show up on eBay.
