Dealers still aren't allowing test drives of the Focus RS'? Really? They're not new cars anymore.
I won't buy something without driving it first. Back in '08 the Evo X was new and I was in the market. Dealer wouldn't let me test drive one, despite me telling them no deal without it. Their solution was for me to sign the sales contract, then drive the car. Supposedly if I didn't like it, they'd rip up the contact.
I politely declined....
The one I visited down the street from my house said the same thing as your Mitsu dealer. He even added in, that they would basically only let me take it less than a mile up and down a road in the industrial/commerical area behind the dealer.

You beat me to it. It is price fixing and I worked for a company once that got sued for it.
Sure, but I wouldn’t put much stock in something a random car salesman told you.
I heard it from two separate Honda dealerships within 20 miles of each other off the same major highway. I wouldn't put it past it actually being a fact.
I've also gotten "They are only making 400 total!!!!" Yes this month lol.
I by no means want to get rid of my S2000; BUT!, since I just purchased the 99 Technoviolet M3 my wife says one of those has to go if I move forward with another sporty car. Puts me in a tough decision if I go that route. I also really should get a used truck/suv for hauling tow purposes instead. I could have an S2000, M3, and utility vehicle for less than the price of the CTR.

For fun per dollar I'd seriously look at an Si (WANT). It is a little down on power compared to the R, but it is also down on weight. And it is much less.... overstyled..... than the R. Also half the money, or less if you count the "market adjustment".
Honestly I would rather have a hatch so if I went that route, I'd buy a Civic Hatch Sport and throw a HONDATA tune on it. No LSD like the Si but I would still get the hatch. Hell if they put that L15T in the Fit, then we'd be talkin.

Same junk that killed the Focus RS.
Probably enough Honda fanbois to weather the storm on this though.
I remember the days of SVT Fords, when only certain dealerships were authorized to sell SVTs. Part of the reason was so they wouldn't market-adjust everything. Get caught inflating prices, lose your SVT status.
I do get the no test drive thing. We would get people joy riding mustang GT's all the time, then asking about the gt350 or the raptor or focus RS etc. You get tired of it. "well I don't understand why you need all my info just to let me drive a car. I'm definitely not buying it now" ok dude whatever. Me asking for your license and insurance and even just touching on numbers (basically just mentioning price) is what totally killed your desire for a performance car.

When the GT350 came out a local dealer put huge markups on it and sold their 2016 allotment fairly quickly. They tried markups on 2017s too, but things didn't work out that well. They still have 4 brand new 2017 GT350s sitting on the lot with $8750 off MSRP ($80,000 Canadian), and three 2018s with $500 off. I'm really curious what they try with pricing when the Bullitt gets released.
At the end of 2004, my bride and I decided that we were interested in an '04 XC90 (room for grandkids, dogs with the 3rd row seat). Went to our closest Volvo dealer who had a base model in stock. They insisted they wanted $5K over the sticker. Yeah... nah.
Was down in Sacramento and dropped into a dealer there. Sales guy was retiring and wanted to sell one more car. Got a fully loaded XC90 in the color we wanted for a couple of thousand less that the sticker on the base model we had looked at.
The local dealer wasn't too happy when we took it in for service...

I can think of a lot better things to do with $50K. Like, buy 200,000 gumballs.
Buying A Honda is quite possibly the last thing I’d do with $50k. For that you could get a stinger gt and get it tuned and exhaust and make 450hp to the rear wheels.

Buying a Kia is the last thing I would do with $50k, that’s for sure. That’s why there are so many choices in life, as people have different tastes.

I get the hatch thing. And I am 150% on board with the l15t in a Fit.

If I had $50k to spend, I'd be looking at a Porsche 911 Turbo. The only Asian cars I'd consider for that kinda of money would be an NSX or a Mk4 Supra Turbo.
Does it have to be new? I'm thinking NSX.
In reply to Woody :
IIRC it was Honda of Danbury. I've been there a few times and haven't come away impressed with either their prices on new/used or the quality of their service, so YMMV.

It's crazy I said the dealer was charging $50k and you guys think I'd pay that. I made this post because I WOULD NOT pay $50k for a Civic lol. I'd pay MSRP for that car, similar market car to the STI, Focus RS, Golf R, etc. That's it lol.
If I were to spend $50k on my own vehicle at this moment it would be a base model Raptor. If I were spending $50k on a vehicle at the moment in general my wife would be in control of what that vehicle is and it wouldn't be the Raptor LOL.
