This is looking like the Subaru WRX to me.
I just sold my 2012 WRX and it looked pretty much like that except it didn't have a ridiculous wing and had a useful hatch/cargo area.
looks like something they made for a Mad Max movie designed to slay crowds of people, then realized Mustangs already do that and don't have to look that ridiculous.
But, since it's a Honda and a Civic, the fanbois will be all googly eyes over it. Well, the good news is it already comes pre-riced. Other than Camber-stance or donk, you really can't make it much worse.
I'm looking forward to seeing one. I've liked all of the Si's and the Integra Type R is amazing. Yes it's a little sharp looking, but maybe Honda finally has their poop in a pile and is going to give us performance cars again.
I'm getting a WRX vibe from it. Just without a turbo that can be replaced (if its the current same as the current generation Type-R motor).
I have to admit though I like the batE36 M3 crazy hot hatch/small car stuff that's been going on lately.
It's a little racerboi for me, but I generally like it. I saw a new 4dr Civic on the road the other day and thought, hey, that's a pretty slick looking car, but had to check the name badge to see what it was. I was thinking maybe a Maxima or something, but nope, Civic. It's a lot bigger, more what I think of as Accord sized.
But you know, if I was in the market for a 4dr hatch FWD...I'd definitely be looking at one. Maybe the Si over the R, but you never know.
honestly, AWD might make it a lot more interesting to me.
In reply to ultraclyde:
It's certainly the size of an Impreza...
Also, are people still fans of this car? I thought the last good civic was '99?!?!?
The most recent Si with the LSD and the...K24? I can't remember Honda engines, anyway, great motor/transmission. The rest of the car is at least OK, so the package works. Whether it was worth the cost new is subjective, but I see a lot of them in Houston. They are a fantastic FWD rallycross car.
And another thing: "carbon fiber side skirts". Sigh.... no idiots, you are supposed to put the light weight pieces up high, not down where they get trashed the first time someone curbs it...
If they would just take all that mechanical goodness and put it under a CR-Z skin, I might just embarrass myself with excitement. As it is, it looks like the offspring of a WRX and a Peyote button.
Ive been thinking that between 2012 and 2015, all the Darts, Corollas, Civics, (and the 2016 Cruze too) all have that jellybean round and featureless look to their profiles...any pizazz is all in the over-the-top grilles and light schemes (I'm especially looking at you Nissan). I like that Honda is trying break out of that doldrum, but the Civic is too big lately. Do not want.

Why? My Speed 3 with almost 100 less HP than they are claiming from this wouldn't hook up well until 3rd unless you babied it or were on stellar condition asphalt.

imo, the only ones NOT going uber bland or over the top has been Kia. Their entire lineup (minus the Soul, seriously Whiskey Tango Foxtrot) is clean, handsome and not over the top. The new civic is just flat out massive. It's only 6 inches overall shorter in length, 1 inch shorter in height and 2 inches narrower than the 15 accord.
Is it wrong that I'd much rather see Honda build a 'Fit Si' with the 1.5T?...Something that drives like a Fiesta ST, but still with more useful interior space than a Focus.

I'd take mine in a fit please

Because then, given the looks, it would almost be a WRX. I don't disagree that it would improve the driving experience of the car at all, and might even make it appealing to me.
Doesn't interest me, and I was formerly a honda fanboi to some extent. Then again, I'm not 18 anymore (and also am not interested in FWD cars any more), so I'm not really the demographic anyhow.
Looks ricey as hell to me. Now get off my lawn!

With another 100hp and without the Turbo Suby engine reliability questions.
But you're right, I don't care for the looks either.
Honda, oh how you have grown. I parked next to a new Accord recently that absolutely made my FR-S look like a Alfa 4C parked next to a Civic. Apparently some joker put Civic badging on it though... oh wait...it was a newer Civic after all...
Yeah Honda has been dead to me since 2001...
They need a reason to buy it. 35k? Why not buy the sti for the same-ish price? AWD being more useable. Or the RS (if you can find one in that price.
I agree- if the civic is the new accord, and the fit is the new civic, then the crown should follow suit. You don't see horse jockeys "getting bigger"!
Honda Fit, 1.5turbo. 6spd. 2600lbs. For 25k. Make the AWD version (which is already out) for about 28k. Oh, and minimum 200hp.
