Which would you buy and why?

Any model (coupe, sedan, hatchback), manual transmission, any year. Keep in mind the price should be $5k or less.

This will be a daily driver, NO AUTO-X. Cruise control, power windows, power locks (which model those come on I have no idea).

I currently am leaning towards a super clean, 2000 Integra GS (has all the comfort options mentioned). I've wondering if I'll regret not having the hatch of the civic though, as I've owned a couple of civics before. And of course, Civic SIR's and SI's fall in that price range.

Regular gas requirement would also be awesome. Am I pigeoholing myself into the integra?

for just a bit more I have a '01 Integra LS for sale

all that you're wanting (cruise, windows, locks, AC, cd player, 5sp) 93k miles black exterior and so called champagne interior, sun roof, 87 octane, 15" rims (OEM) and it is a 3 door hatch

The Integra will be a bit nicer for a DD. More creature comforts. You should be able to find an 02-05 Si in that price range as well. More fancy than the older Civics. Plenty of cargo space and pretty zippy for a DD. Should manage low to mid 30s MPG. Any more specific questions fire away, I have owned just about every Civic/Integra there is.

around here.. they want stupid money for those cars.. and they are all beaten half to death. 5k would get you one with bad paint, a ripped interior, and a smoking engine

Commuter? 1st gen Civic Hybrid. They are just hitting the $5K point.

Civics all sound like they need wheel bearings. The Integra adds enough sound insulation that its not a problem on them. I like the old B18, too.

I want one of those bulldog looking SIR Civics, though.

You want the Integra. Having driven many different iterations of the D series civic engines they just are not as awesome as even the "lowly" non Vtec B18. No replacement for displacement. Plus the Integra is just a little bit nicer to DD.

1986-89 Integra LS. Meets your listed requirements, and is old school enough that it won't get stolen. Plus, it looks better than any of the newer ones

Okay, you might have trouble finding one in nice shape, but when you do, it should be in your price range...

In RI, $5k can still get you a very clean example.

I'll likely ask $2.5k for my 200k mile 2000 DX sedan when I sell it.

At this stage of the game, the only one on this list I'd buy is another 4-door. Maybe a clean EX. I just don't want to deal with the theft issue for a DD.

This is coming from someone who still owns a garage queen 99 Si that sees 1k miles a year and otherwise sits under a cover in my garage 8-9 months out of the year and is protected by an AIDS-infected pitbull. I can't leave that car ANYWHERE.

I would go with the Integra because of the nicer interior.

I've owned a bunch of Civics, but I've always wanted an Integra. I just couldn't afford them.

Integras are WAY nicer than the Civics. But for the price, Accord. All. Day. Long. Way better everything for DD duties. Half the price normally, and much better ownership.

Is the Integra a 4 door? All the 2 doors are hatchbacks as well. And all the more awesome for it.

For a project i'd have to decide between an EG Civic Coupe (the unloved stepchild, EK Civic Hatch, or a 92-93 Integra GSR because dat B17 goodness.

For a daily, EK Civic Hatch, or still... the 92-93 GSR because i can't give that up.

Im up north of the border Our stolen car rates are a lot lower than what you guys experience down south, I can leave a locked car anywhere in this city and it won't disappear on me.

If you want to contort the definition of a hatchback, I guess the Integra is. But it certainly isn't the typical two bubble shape hatch, and therefore, isn't as handy.

This is good to know about Integras (the quality). I will not be caught dead driving a Accord. Maybe when I am 40

I'm really trying to stay away from premium fuel... it's close to $1.50 a litre here ($5.67/usgallon). I'd prefer to stick with a normal B18 Integra and then do a cheap turbo kit down the road. But I would love a GSR...

.... cheap turbo kit.....

In other news, the Integra hatch is no less handy than the Civic. If anything, they usually seem bigger to me.

How is the EK hatch unloved?? I see much love for them on the infranetz. I loved mine until it was stolen. I shall never love one again. Side note, the EG hatch is (personally my least favorite) because of the stupid hatch opening. EF is better.

No, the EG Coupe is the unloved stepchild. EK hatches are pretty fanboi.

I never said immediately. I kind of inferred it down the road type of thing. With a gsr, there is no choice.

The turbo kit will immediately negate any savings you had in the meantime by running regular fuel. Forever.

I'll just take it that you are being difficult and not seeing the forest for the individual trees you nitpick in this conversation. I said "I'd rather turbo a b18 down the road vs own a GSR". Who doesn't like to tinker and modify their car? Why on earth would I be on GRM if I didn't think about that "eventually". I'd argue a CLEAN GSR would demolish the fuel savings even more. Will I actually do it? Probably not. But I like to keep my options open. The GSR gives me no option, and clean ones are expensive.

Have I thoroughly explained my position? Or do you need me to keep going?

See, now i understand the stance. The way it was presented before looked like "I don't want a GSR because of fuel costs, but i'll certainly turbo a GS/LS and it'll be awesome!"

At which point, i make the face and what happened is what we get.
