Is the clockspring going to be broken?

Thanks, lucky I found another NB in the yard with an intact bag.

Really? Why do the clocksprings break? Isn't it just a way to drive the electricity to the bag?

I would guess from the force of the airbag deploying. Airbag deployment causes damage throughout the steering column/dash structure, and the clockspring is close to or touching the airbag module.

^ true, but the airbag is bolted to the wheel. I'm trying to think of a way where the load would be transferred to the clockspring. Color me surprised.

In reply to Blaise :

Current/voltage circuit usually burns up for the bag on deployment.

My experience is that there is enough heat from the deployment that the connector that plugs into the bag melts.  The clockspring itself is probably fine, but you'd need to find a connector and solder etc, so no point.
