I know, I know, "drifting is dumb," but admit it that we have all dreamed of doing this:
Iirc the Formula Drift cars are running built Roush Yates race engines so they are coyote based. But quite far from stock.
And I asked the RTR people how late/early in the day that was filmed. Answer: Between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
I too wondered how late they went to close that much road but I also noticed that cars are still in the drivethru of Whataburger.
Specifically, this Whataburger . But then website says, "open 24 hrs."
Thats right down the street from me, In my younger and dumber days I enjoyed doing one leaf of the clover in my Z28.

In this case, I think it works.

I don't even disagree, but it's like a crooked splash in diving or not "sticking the landing" in uneven bars, mandatory deduction.

Come on, Sunday is St Patrick's Day- green was a given, and since it was dark, they needed some green lights.

Not even remotely Coyote-based. More Windsor-based than anything. Both Vaughn Gittin Jr. and Chelsea Denofa run Roush-Yates NASCAR-style pushrod motors, but punched out to 410ci and bigger camshaft and other internal tweaks, as its not restricted. They make about 900hp. Now Justin Pawlak also runs a Mustang in Formula Drift and his car runs a souped-up Coyote with a Roush blower for about 1000hp

It's cool, in and of itself, making a "sport" out of it, is what I and many others consider dumb.
If it has to be judged, it's not a sport.

Let's see them drift with 130hp Toyota fours, so they have to drive instead of just doing a burnout.
(yeah, i went there. Harrumph. if you'll excuse me there are some clouds I have to yell at)

Werd! I could die happy after pulling that off. Hell, just the sound is all I’d need!
And I still love your avatar!

Their culture is off-putting and tends to ruin a lot of goodwill that other groups have worked to instill in the community. A number of autocross groups have a hard time finding venues thanks to drifting groups renting the same locations and ruining the lots, pissing off the neighbors, etc.
The act itself is a lot of fun, but it is a bit dumb, but so is jumping curbs with your bike. Most of us still do it though. :)

Mmmm.... while I see your point, and generally agree, most Olympic sports are judged. Figure skating anyone? Tell me Michelle Kwan wasn’t an athlete? Now tell Jeff Gordon was... there’s no athletic ability in racing, at least not in an Olympic Way. Yet, we all consider racing to be “sport”

Yes, drifting is the car version of figure skating. That's the analogy I use all the time. But track and field sports aren't judged, for example. Nor is basketball, field hockey, and on and on and on.
Where did I say or even intimate that figure skaters and gymnasts aren't athletes? Or that there is now athletic ability in race car drivers? You're attempting to conflate two unrelated issues.
