Cobbled together aero?

What ye think? Lots of crap I had laying around. Trying to slap together something before the race in 2 weeks. Stole the Miata wing and some random uprights. Can't hang more than 5" past the rear bumper, hence the forward leaning mounts.

You're going to want to brace those uprights, side-to-side.  Most often the cheap/fast way to go about that is crisscrossed steel cable.  especially for how high it sticks up from the lower mount.

you might check with Abe/Giles/Adam.  There's a rule about 'rear element' stuff that could come in contact with bumpers, have to have a 'flat' section so that things aren't locked/stuck/spun.

final suggestion:  do the old "body weight test".  64" 9LR wing at 120mph, could make up to ~220#s of downforce (and ~25#s of drag, not including the mounts).  So, better to try that out at home, rather than have it fail spectacularly with someone following behind.

Good notes, thanks! - I'll be adding more bracing higher up. When I'm done the uprights won't be past the "bumper"

The uprights are 1/4" aluminum - embedded into and "resting" on top of the old school style crash bumper - all steel and fairly structural.

Gotcha, I'm just trying to reference item 'v' in the Rear Element rules (page 13?):

that plan is "almost certainly" fine w.r.t. that... and I'm not sure there's going to be much/any bump drafting going on at CMP.  But, an E36/E46 has a higher bumper, and I think they reason for the rule is to try and minimize the likelihood that "close racing" with different bumper heights leads to someone inadvertently hooking onto an upright and spinning the front car out, and that chain-reacting into a bigger incident.  I'm primarily trying to make sure that my familiarity with the GLTC rules can pay some dividends in making sure you have a smooth/successful weekend.

And, 'speed booping' is not unheard of at RoadAmerica, MidOhio, and Autobahn... afaik.

Along the lines of a smooth/successful weekend, and not to imply that you haven't, nor to make insinuations about what kind of driver you are.  But, for Rene/ScottGiles/Adam/future-GLTC'ers sakes I'll make the overbearing suggestion to: "not to skip over the Driver's Expectation section at the top of the rules, in order to 'get to the good stuff' ".

I had a good race weekend at COTA. It's pretty easy to keep your nose clean.

Though, CMP is a smaller track so maybe I'll struggle more there, COTA has a lot of room for activities.

My primary struggle was against COTA itself - COTA and I never really bonded in the sim or real life. I've been hounding the sim for CMP and it's a more simple track (it seems), but obviously much less run-off compared to the f1 track. Curious to see how it works, but my goals will be the same, remain calm and don't hit things.

Lol, I think it turned out a bit better than good-ish, but that's just me. I suppose worst case I'll just hang out at the festival, not too bad 

@nocones, not sure, I wasn't planning on going CMP either, but kinda fell into my lap
