What’s better than spending a weekend autocrossing? How about a weekend of autocrossing with your friends from GRM?
We’ll be at the Central Florida Region SCCA Autocross at Daytona International Speedway this weekend, August 5-6.
For more information, check out the event’s MotorsportReg page here.

Three of us are entered this weekend: I’m running the Garage Rescue Miata both days, while Tom and Chris are sharing the GTI on Saturday.
I’ll also be at the Speedway Friday afternoon/evening, too, with Chris.
Just looking over the entry list and I see several familiar names, including one I haven’t seen in a long, long time. This will be fun.
Let me add, I'm usually working waivers when you check in so if you're a fellow GRM member, be sure to say hi.
Just look for the old guy with the green Miata.
And I’ll see you bright and early Saturday morning.
I am ashamed to admit I have not competed at an autocross in a long time. I am really excited to take the GTI out and have some fun.
And the Daytona kart track is super friendly for novices. If you get lost, we have bigger issues.

I still haven't gone to a Daytona event yet and want to do at least one, no car to autocross for now as the GTI is off limits, and Im fixing something else to run until I can get to fixing the Acura.
I have never autocrossed at Daytona. I wish I could bring my gang of Corolla friends this weekend, but I'll be in Nashville.
I've run on the Kart track as part of the Cadillac V-lab experience. The CTS-V was a bit of a chore, especially with all the nannies on. I would have my foot mashed to the floor exiting a corner, and Hal would tell me he couldn't let me do that.
The ATS-V there was something else. I had a cone in the middle of the chicane that someone had knocked over. Drove around it with the right side tires in the dirt, and still set the fastest time of the day out of 90 people.
When I ran a SCCA Regional there in 2011, there was an autocross going on in the campground area near NASCAR T3. There were these two kids out there running black BMW 3 series. Don't suppose you might know who they were...
It was in my plan but alas the clutch slave on the GTI won't allow it. I'll definitely be at one of the next visits there. Love that place.
Yeah, Daytona kart track is fun. Plus I love how it’s just hiding there in plain sight when not in use.
Hope to be there next month at least on Sunday if not both days.
And packed up and ready to check out tonight’s activities.
Good morning from the track!
The GTI passed tech and we are headed out to walk the track.

We're currently leading the class, but only barely--and runs are just starting.
Success! The GTI just added another trophy to its belt. And Chris did remarkably well at his fourth Autocross ever.
That was fun, and more to come once I get my weekly stuff rolling.
Spoiler alert, though: I got to drive the truck.
Here's the club schedule for the rest of the year. We'll be back at the Speedway next month, and the events at the Firm are always fun.
The humidity and the sun were brutal up here. It reminded me why I almost never run August autocrosses.
I hope it was cooler down there than it was in Charleston.
I had a ton of fun on Saturday driving the GTI and I did way better that I anticipated. I got to ride with Tom on his last run of the day after completing my final run and I could tell where I was loosing time on the course. I am excited to get back on track again soon.
