So this may not be the best section, so feel free to move to Off-topic.

Does anyone know of some sort of thermally conductive paste, filler, gel something that will fill a gap in between two metal pieces. I want to dissipate heat from one object through to an aluminum housing/heatsink. Based on the design its not possible to have a full contact and there will be gaps. Anyone know of any products to maximize the conductive heat transfer?

You can get heat sink grease at most any electronics store, Radio Shack carries it.

Lots of themally conductive epoxies on the market. Henkel and Maserbond are ones that I know of.

Will they work for gaps of up to half an inch?

Lead?

They probably won't work for a 1/2" gap.
