So being raised Catholic I have tendency to confess even when I probably shouldn’t (like that time after drinking a case of Dos Equis I woke completely naked in a petting zoo) but I digress.
Of late, it has come to my attention that I have a duality of mind that borders on hypocrisy.
When people say, “oh you’re going racing this weekend” I usually reply “no I’m going to an autocross”. I don’t refer to autocross as racing yet I bought a F500 specifically for autocross and refer to it as a “race car”.
I consider sticky tires on a track day car ridiculous and unnecessary; yet I have Hoosiers on my mostly track day Datsun.
I view anything non Japanese as likely unreliable; yet 4 of the 9 vehicles are non Japanese.
I consider buying a daily driver costing more than 25K an outrageous waste of money but I’m shopping for vintage single seat race cars in that range.
I put all this down to racer logic…………feel free to share your “logic”
Congratulations, you're human.
I mean at least I haven't bought a Honda and have stuck to the Koreans for 2 decades.
Everyone has their own view on priorities.
In my case, it baffles me how I'll look at a set of carbon fiber rim bicycle wheels for $1600 and buy two sets with nary a debate because it's such a great deal (normally almost 2x that price), but I'll fret over spending $800 on a set of 4 car wheels. But over the last 30+ years of being into bicycling, I've become somewhat numb to the cost of high-end components. It's taken me a bit longer to get to that point with car parts.

This is logic I wholly approve of my son............no go say two Campagnolos and one Tomasini.

The best Hondas are free, and from the 90s. Try one on, you may like it.
The hood wasn't up for any particular reason at all. I swear.

I'll be as likely to have a Honda in my garage under my name as frenchy will admit to reality.

This wasn't/isn't a crime in Nevada................I make this joke because back in the early 80s I guy got busted for this but they had to let him go because there was no law on the books................gotta love Vegas.
We're living in a golden age of high performance cars and I'm constantly fantasizing and researching new Corvettes, Supras, Emiras, M cars, etc. I have the means to own one of these cars if I wanted to, and when I was younger I would have just piled in. But I know that the fantasy is better than the reality and I won't buy one because it would only lead to frustration and I would sell it quickly. It would be too nice to whip the way I really want to, and too fast to have any fun with on public roads.

This is precisely why I bought the new BRZ instead of new Mustang GT or Camaro SS. Modern amenities, is relatively lightweight for a modern vehicle, and is still plenty quick enough to have fun with out worrying about getting yourself in trouble all the time.
And also $25k less doesn't hurt either.

I was going to joke and say "I'll take an 88-91 CRX Si" and then I looked up what clean ones have sold for.

Racer logic?
Haha, I don't think those words go together.
Also, autocross is timed competition therefore: racing. Cause I'm not about to say that stage rally isn't racing.

I'll actually say it; Stage Rally isn't racing...............it's Rally. LOL For me call it a Rally Race is odd because in my mind it conjures up the image of everyone charging down a gravel road at the same time.
I divide Autocross, Rally and Road Racing into separate things in my brain because each demands a different approach.
Note I consider none of them superior to the other; autocross makes you a better qualifier, road racing makes you a smoother driver and rally makes you ace at car control.......love them all.

Made a joke today about getting my wife an M2, and more nervous than excited that she was all about it.

But Bambi would have seen that. Bambi the little deer not Bambi the hooker.

Totally agree. That's why the fastest new car I've ever owned was my 2017 JCW Mini Cooper, and I actually ended up selling it because I prefer the feel of old cars when it comes to fun aspects. Although I do see the in moderately sporty new cars because they are jack of all trades vehicles (new GTI, Civic Si, etc)

Can we take the skin heads????
My mom called it Catholic guilt - like you feel guilty when you buy a new car as you probably should've gotten less and sent the money to missions or to support the sisters in retirement (but not support the priests as they make bank).
Why should you enjoy that new car with so many suffering?

One of these days I'll have to pay you a visit just so I can park my Honda in your garage for a picture.
