^^^ Personal rant. People might care more about cars and engines if they could see them. Get rid of the stupid covers.

I'll concur there. It has less power than the old BMW 4-bangers I have in other cars, but the I6 in the GT6 sounds like it has twice the power, love the sound of the valves softly tapping, and the fact that they're not often seen.

And there is no plastic cladding...

And the GT6 still has the best bonnet ever made for working on engines....

They ran it, took note of where it broke, then beefed up those areas. The result - a (relatively) light, strong motor.

That's my first car right there. Gold '73 Volvo 164.

My parents had a 3.4L MkI and 4.2L Mk10 jags, so that must be where I caught it.

I think this is the best ~looking~ I-6 of all:

I'm very partial to on of these in my '98 M3:

I really dig the dig the idea of a Jeep 4.0 stroker motor in something pre-1960's with triple sidedraft Webers or Dellortos. Modern design, old school looks, great sound, tons of power, and not expensive or difficult to find. Only real fab work would be making an intake manifold.

Most of my favs have been mentioned -- Jag and Aston DOHC motors. A couple I don't think I've seen mentioned yet -- the DOHC six in the Maserati 3500GT from late 50's/early 60's...

and the venerable Stovebolt 6 from Chevy in 216 or 235 displacements.
