Anyone else think that would be an awesome cruiser with the exterior as is? I'm not a huge fan of the rat-rod look but that works for me somehow.

Unless you live in the desert, that bare metal wouldn't last long. I've always liked those first generation Tempests, this looks like a pretty decent one.

With that in mind, here's a thing that I've always wondered about: Is there a way to finish coat a car to achieve the bare metal look like that Tempest but keep corrosion from ruining it. Clear coat over the metal? I know nothing about painting cars.

In reply to BlueInGreen44:Not a expert, but according to the car shows I watch, yes you just clear coat it, but I guess my next question is, how long does that last? as there is a a lot of preparation done when people paint a car.

There are clear coats now available that are intended to be sprayed over bare metal. While I don't know how long they last, I would think they must last longer than a standard clear coat or they would have no value.

I forget what bike maker did it back in the 90s.. but they had a chearcoated steel frame. Unfortunately all it took was a single chip and water would get beneath the coat and soon you had a clearcoated rusted frame
